Biomedical Engineering Senior Design Project – UC Davis Student
- Team-oriented design and manufacturing project sponsored by Ekso Bionics
- Designed and prototyped a lower extremity exoskeleton aimed at reducing biomechanical strain on the body
- Applied physics, material properties, industry standards, and user needs to establish engineering design specifications and set target specifications Aviran Lab – UC Davis Mentee
- Lab description: algorithm design for studying RNA structure with high resolution and throughput
- Completed basic coding projects drawing on topics of statistics, machine learning, applied math, and biophysics as an introduction to the bioinformatics field Mentorship – Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Mentee
- Supervisor: Dr. Stephen Harris, current Chair of Pediatrics
- Shadowed doctors and residents in varying areas of specialties in both the pediatrics clinic and main hospital
- Learned to read patient charts, introduced to overview of critical markers for health assessment, observed doctor-patient interaction and doctor-doctor interaction, and learned about overall medical pediatric care.
BMES Make-A-Thon Participant
- Designed and prototyped a new device tailored to fit client need in a 30-hour team competition while adhering to material and cost limitations
- Multi-lens-accommodating frames for use in Third World Countries Gift of Life Foundation Coordinator of Volunteers
- Bone marrow registry aimed at effectively matching patients with compatible donors by being the first to use cheek swabs to test and recruit donors
- Tabled at events and followed protocol to register volunteers for the foundation My Best HomeCare Student Intern
- Familiarized myself with home respiratory equipment: pulse oximeters, CPAP/BIPAP machines, ventilator systems, and other necessary accessories
- Shadowed a respiratory technician during patient home visits to monitor equipment acquired from MBHC
- Worked closely with pulmonary doctor to learn different patient cases and learn the overall business aspect of a homecare company
- Assisted the billing department by assessing explanation of benefits (EOB), organizing patient charts, and logging payments from patients and insurance companies Van Lang Vietnamese School Teacher
