Experience:

Kelly Mechanical Services 08/09 – present

Technical Associate

Technical HVAC servicing. Repair and replacement of new and existing systems. Both residential and business contracts.

Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT), 05/07 – 06/09

System Engineer –James Web Space Telescope.

Led a team of engineers in the setup of a cryogenics laboratory for the Micro Shutter Subsystem. Developed a plan for the qualification and acceptance of hardware. Generated a coherent set of operating procedures for mechanical, electrical, and software teams. Oversaw the development of an overall integration and test flow plan for the delivery of spaceflight hardware. Provided the guidance to make a unified team presentation for design reviews and the hardware delivery end item data package.

Wrote the purchase specification for a cryogenic cooling system. Wrote operating procedures for running a cryogenic thermal vacuum chamber and cleanroom facility.

Led a team of engineers to Friedrichshafen, Germany to complete mechanical shockenvironmental testing on the MSA. The test required the presence of a skeleton crew to perform system health checks before and after the environmental testing. As such the trip also served as a “shakedown cruise” for the launch delivery team. A number of transportation and handling procedures were tried, tested and refined.

Developed procedures and oversaw the product fabrication and test flow of the overall Micro Shutter subsystem along with the end item delivery package. The effort ensompassed a fabrication, integration and test of mechanical, electrical and software subsystems. Additionally led the system engineering effort supporting the mechanical engineering team for the Micro Shutter Assembly (MSA). Successfully performed requirements tracking and verification thoughout the mechanical fabrication process with an emphasis on environmental qualification and acceptance testing.

Swales Aerospace, 1/00 – 05/07

Systems Engineer –Mechanical Engineering Department

Development of various Level III drawing packages for the manufacture of spaceflight hardware

Coordinating the effort between the machine shop, quality control and the purchasing department, and vendors to get all the parts together at the right time

Systems Engineer for the Micro Shutter Subsystem of the Near Infrared Spectrometer for the James Web Space Telescope. Worked with a multidisciplined team to assemble the document package leading to a successful System Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review.

Systems Engineer, Satellite Thermal Vacuum Shroud. Obtained a Top Secret security clearance. Poly and final interview 09/01/2005 received TS/SCI in January 2006.

Shop liaison for a Naval Research Lab space instrument project. Shop liaison and material review board (discrepant part disposition), for the Naval Research Laboratory STEREO SECCHI program. Worked with an electroplating vendor and the plating laboratory at GSFC to develop a commercial multi-vendor fabrication procees. The final process was implemented through a combination of purchasing specifications and a level III drawing package

Integration of a Thermoelectric Cooler (TEC) for a NASA Hubble Space Telescope Instrument. Mechanical design of the Thermoelectric Cooler For Infrared Electronics (TECFIRE) program for the Wide Field Camera 3 Instrument now installed on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Woked with design engineers, technologists, and welding fabrication technicians for a successful build, test and delivery.

Integration of a cryogenic cooler for a NASA space instrument. Design of a dynamic mount for a cryogenic cooler onboard the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) Instrument launched and installed on the ISS in the spring of 2011.

Development of tooling and processes for the fabrication of flexible thermally conductive straps. Thermal strap designs include a 35 K Thermal Storage Unit for the AFRL and a mirror mount conduction bar for the SBIRS/LO program. Delivered to the customer in 2002. Oversaw CAD design team members and machine shop crew.
