Forensic Psychology Work Experience
California Forensic Medical Group (2010 to2018): Psychological evaluation and assessment of inmates with a history of mental illness, acutely psychotic inmates, assessment of inmates referred to psychiatry by law enforcement staff or community mental health providers, assessment of risk for danger to others or to self and capacity to stand trial. Inmate crisis management; collaboration with law enforcement regarding inmates in need of mental health support, psychiatric medication management, and participation in quality of care and case management committee’s.
Psychologist, Salinas Valley State Prison (since 2008 to present): Psychologist, Mental Health Emergency Room, Mental Health Crisis Bed Unit and AD SEG/EOP-CCCMS programs. Psychological evaluation of inmates who present in the prison psychiatric emergency room as acutely mentally ill or complaining of suicidal ideation. Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of severely and acutely mentally ill inmates and inmates with personality disorders. Assessment of risk for violence or self harm, crisis management of inmates, case management, collaboration with correctional staff in regard to inmates at high risk for violence, inmates or self harm and inmates with special needs.
Riverside Sheriff’s Department (2000 to 2002): Psychological evaluation of inmates with a psychiatric history or who were referred by law enforcement staff; crisis management of inmates and inmates demonstrating acute mental illness, assessment of inmates on suicide watch.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department (1997 to 2000): Psychological assessment, counseling, crisis management of newly booked and incarcerated inmates, assessment of inmates on suicide watch or demonstrating acute mental illness or dangerousness. Collaboration with law enforcement in regard to inmates demonstrating acute mental illness, risk for dangerousness/suicidal ideation or special needs.
Private Practice Specialties: High conflict couples therapy, divorce mediation, comprehensive personality assessment, parenting competency, child custody evaluations, criminal competency evaluations, fitness for duty evaluations.
County of Orange-Children and Youth Services (2003 to 2008): Psychological and neuropsychological assessment of infants, children and adolescents in need of comprehensive psychological assessment; treatment of children and adolescents with severe behavioral disorders, mental illness and substance abuse problems. Comprehensive psychological testing in children and adolescents for court use in treatment planning and placement. Assessment and emergency counseling services for the Child Abuse Services Team (CAST). Worked collaboratively with Orange County detectives and prosecutors in regard to mental health treatment needs of victims. Another facet of my job responsibilities was to take call several nights during the week and weekends for the psychiatric crisis team. Patients seen were brought into the community emergency rooms by police or emergency workers. Patients were also seen and evaluated in community police departments.
