Responsible for 3 unit division with a 40 FTE nursing staff, 31 beds, and multi-million dollar annual budget; maintained care standards and ensured compliance.

Oversaw the remodel of Ortho/Med-Surg Unit, including staff transition from to a 3 Sub-Specialty Unit caring for Orthopedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and acute level trauma patients.

Maintained FTE’s under budget for FY 2011 through changes in staffing grid in collaboration with charge nurses and staffing office.

Continued to develop and refine the Total Joint Pre-Operative Program in partnership with pre-admission testing staff and Orthopedic Surgeons.

Increased staff competency by organizing in-service training to promote and adapt to new technology.

Enabled the unit to serve as a pilot unit for introductory quality improvement programs, such as increasing indwelling catheter removal time and the Iatric overlay.

Planned and directed the initiation of Telemetry monitoring for 8 beds initially, and later increased the capability to 12 beds.

Initiated the Stroke Program; collaborated with Neurologists and Internal Medicine physicians to create pre-printed orders while using the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines and The Joint Commission Stroke Program Standards; initiated Code Stroke response team within the hospital, as well as in the Emergency Department, culminating in the first achievement as a designated Primary Stroke Center.

Developed and maintained strong relationships with schools of nursing faculty, coordinating unit tours for students to create a hiring candidate pipeline.

Partnered with the Chief Medical Officer to initiate an Orthopedic Section Meeting and then transitioned this meeting to medical staff office supervision.

Improved employee engagement scores from 64% to 78%.

Served as Nursing Leadership Representative on the hospital wide Forms Committee, as well as only Nurse Leader on Hospital Practice Council (Shared Governance).

Served as Preceptor in Nursing Management and Education for Peer in MSN program at University of Phoenix.
