Spina Bifida of Jacksonville: Executive Director

The mission of Spina Bifida of Jacksonville is to provide social, emotional, educational and financial support to individuals and families living with spina bifida in the Jacksonville area.

Spina Bifida of Jacksonville was founded in 1973 to provide support to families with living with spina bifida in the Jacksonville region. SBJ serves children and adults living with spina bifida, and their families, in an empathetic, communicative and informative manner.

Spina Bifida of Jacksonville is seeking an Executive Director that will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization, including the development and implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising, in accordance with the direction set by the Board of Directors.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

With the Board of Directors, execute the strategic plan to guide the organization

Foster effective teamwork between the Executive Director and volunteers, staff, and Board constituents.

Act as a spokesperson for the organization, including interaction with the media and representing the organization at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile.

Financial planning and management

Work with staff and the Board to prepare a comprehensive budget and fund development plan, including development and execution of fundraising plans.

Work with the Board to secure adequate funding for operation of the organization; oversee all fund-raising activities to ensure quality and efficacy.

Develop and manage timelines for fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner.

Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization.

Identify and develop corporate, community, foundation and individual prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities.

Administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information

Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board

Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed

Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization, and provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the organization.

Ensure that the organization complies with all legislation covering taxation and withholding payments.

Operational planning and management

With the Board, develop and execute an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization.

Ensure that operation of the organization meets expectations of clients, the Board and donors.

Ensure that personnel, client, donor, and volunteer files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained.

With the Board President, prepare meeting agendas and supporting materials.

Program planning and management

Manage planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services.

Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality.

Community relations/advocacy

Communicate with supporters to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization.

Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, businesses, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

University degree required in a field aligned with the position responsibilities

2-4 years of fundraising experience with evidence of success in meeting individual and campaign goals

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/ voluntary organizations.

Knowledge of financial management

Knowledge of project management

Computer proficiency

Experience

At least 2 years in a senior level management experience in a non-profit or for-profit business required

Working Conditions

Some work may occur from home, from the organization’s office, or off-site in a variety of locations, as meetings and special events dictate.

A standard workweek of Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, is typical, but occasionally the job will necessitate working evenings, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at public events.

Compensation

This is a full-time exempt salaried position which includes paid time off and six annual paid national holidays. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
