Administration of medical gases via nasal cannulas, oxygen masks, high flow nasal cannulas, and large volume nebulizers;
Performing routine tracheostomy care and weaning;
Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators. Understand and institute advanced ventilator modalities. Initiate, maintain, and monitor ventilator patients. Interpret flow volumes and pressure volume curves to initiate appropriate clinical changes;
Assembling and assuring safety and proper functioning of all equipment /supplies necessary for providing respiratory care;
Documentation of results, findings, and assessments in the patient's electronic medical record;
Performing airway clearance using chest physiotherapy (CPT), vibratory positive expiratory pressure devices, cough assist device, or nasotracheal suctioning;
Assessing pulmonary mechanics using portable spirometry devices;
Responding to cardiopulmonary arrests and rapid response calls;
Responds to calls and provides therapy to patients requiring emergency care for non-traumatic conditions;
Educating patients, families about routine respiratory procedures, medications, modalities, and disease processes;
Providing continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or biphasic positive airway pressure (BiPAP);
Performing arterial blood gas sampling and analysis;
Pulmonary rehabilitation: perform cardiopulmonary stress test, therapeutic exercises to help patients return as close as possible to their previous ADL, breathing exercises to strengthen lung function.
