PROJECT:

• Project Name: Analysis of Shock Wave Boundary Layer interaction (SWBLI) & Assessment of Passive Flow Control Devices.

• Technology Involved: CFD Fluent, Tec plot and Microsoft Excel

• Institutions: DSCE and Technical Support (CSIR-NAL), Aerodynamics Division.

• Team Size: 4 members and I was responsible for Geometry, Meshing and Analysis.

• Project Overview: Our aim was to perform numerical flow simulation of SWBLI on a flat plate and validate the results with the available experimental data. 3D Grid Independent Study is performed for a typical case of freestream Mach number 2.05. The analysis was carried out for with and without RVG (Rectangular Vortex Generator) cases. The RVG height spanned 37.78% of the local BLT(δ). We were able to shift the recirculation zone 2.796% (1.34δ) downstream. Parametric analysis showed (a) Maximum Pressure Ratio increases with the Mach number and the Separation point shifts downstream, (b) Recirculation Zone height increases with Mach Number and (c) Mach steam length decreases with increasing Mach Number and eventually disappears.
