BACKGROUND
I have been in the Healthcare field since Spring of 1988. My career started when I joined the USAF as a Flight Medic working on fixed wing aircraft as well in Mobile Area Staging Facilities (August 1987 until July 1996). I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from The College of St. Catherine in May of 1996. After receiving my Bachelor’s degree, I accepted a Commission as an Officer in the USAF and became a Flight Nurse. My initial nursing position was on a 36 bed Cardiac Stepdown Unit. After 1 year of experience, I transferred to the Surgical ICU where I also had the opportunity to float to the CV ICU, Medical ICU and Neuro ICU. Other ICU experience in my background consists of time on a Burn Unit and Shock/Trauma ICU. At this time I took a sabbatical from Nursing for approximately 18 months. When I returned to patient care, I started in Orthopedic MedSurg - I truly had fun and enjoyed this time. This brings my career up to May of 2003 when I entered the Emergency Medicine field of Nursing; this is where I have been ever since. In July of 2016 I became the Sepsis Coordinator for my Facility, I was in this role until January 2018. During my time in the Leadership role I continued direct patient care by working in the Emergency Department on weekends; in the Cardiac Cath Lab as needed. Also gained experience assisting the Trauma Department by auditing charts and entering charts into the National Trauma Base Registry.
In regards to my Leadership experience, I have been working in a Leadership role as the Sepsis Coordinator for East Houston Regional Medical Center and I was an interim ED Night Manager for 3 months. I had multiple Leadership opportunities and roles during my eleven (11) years in the military. When I moved back to Houston in 2008, I was hired specifically as a Charge Nurse for the ED and remained in this position until I moved into the management until July 2016.
I am seen by my coworkers as being fair, hardworking, having high standards and a strong work ethic. I do not show favoritism. I believe in leading by example. I expect the same high standards from everyone that I expect from myself. I believe in teamwork, good strong communication, honesty and making sure my staff knows they can trust coming to me in confidence. Plus, they know I will do what I can to support them and help them. I am a proponent of Continuing Education to stay current with Best Practices and Standards of Care as identified by Evidence Based Practices.
Thank You for your consideration,
