PROJECTS
March 2017-April 2018 University of Maryland, College Park Graduate Thesis
• Semiconductor Chip (IC) Manufacturing Process Optimization Developed a Discrete-Event Simulation Model of an IC Manufacturing Representative Fab using Arena and Matlab to identify process bottlenecks and reduce the production cycle time of the IC manufacturing process.
Optimized the manufacturing process using Lean and Design of Experiments methodologies, by analyzing the effects of resource planning, production sequences
(FIFO, SPT and Priority Based) and machine failures on the manufacturing cycle time. Aug-Dec 2017 University of Maryland, College Park
• Automatic Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS)
Developed analytical and stochastic (Monte-Carlo) simulation models of the ASRS using Matlab to determine the number of AGV’s required to achieve an average order processing time of less than 30 minutes.
Designed automated verification and validation test methods for the ASRS simulated model to analyze its behavior for requirement-based test protocols and test cases. Jan-May 2017 University of Maryland, College Park
• University of Maryland Diner Food Wastage Analysis Performed a Six-Sigma (DMAIC) analysis to identify and eliminate the root cause of food wastage at the University Diner using statistical tools like control charts, regression analysis, FMEA, and ANOVA.
Identified excessive production as the major contributor to the current food wastage
(8% vs threshold of 2%) and suggested production forecasting improvement methods.
• Queueing Analysis of Two MacDonald’s Restaurants Achieved 42% reduction in the queue waiting time at two MacDonald’s restaurants by formulating stochastic queue models and performing cost and sensitivity analysis to study the impacts of the key performance indicators on the queue waiting time. Sep-Dec 2016 University of Maryland, College Park
• Mobile Transport Robots for Micro-Production System Solved a path planning and optimization problem for a robot in a micro-production system using model-predictive path planning and particle swarm optimization. Jul 2015-May 2016 SRM University, Chennai, India
• Prototype Model of Gas Station Robot
Designed a 3-D prototype gas station robot model using Auto-Cad and Solid Works to study the 3-D Robot model in its design, integration and testing phase. INTERNSHIP
May-June 2014 Pune, India
• Mahindra CIE Ltd Research Intern
Conducted research on introducing an alternative fuel, Bio-LDO (Light Diesel Oil) as a substitute for furnace oil to forge pistons and crankshafts manufactured by the company.
Developed a process map using Auto-Cad to identify the stations where furnace oil is used to fire burners and gathered data pertaining to furnace oil consumption and time to forge at each station.
Performed fuel efficiency and cost-tradeoff analysis for both the fuels using Excel and proposed the advantages of using Bio-LDO over furnace oil to the management.
