I was a LPN for a community health clinic. My primary responsibilities were working with the obstetrician and as the OB Nurse Educator. I was responsible for OB intakes – medical history interview of pregnant women. I obtained extensive health history of patient, their family’s genetic history, past pregnancies, labors and births, immunizations, high risk (Drug use history, HIV risks), allergies – drug, food, environmental – and reactions, medication history. I educated patients on proper diet – exercise – common concerns – warning signs in pregnancy.
While working with the OB-GYN physician, I roomed patients, took down health history, vitals – physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, concerns from patient, obtain Doppler fetal heart tones, measure uterine growth, discuss pregnancy and labor, birth and postpartum, breastfeeding, and infant care, immunizations, progesterone injections, Depovera injections, assist with testing – urine pregnancy, wet mounts, Group Beta Streps, MRSA, Gonorrhea/Chlamydia, cultures, document results. I also worked with many officers from local police and sheriff’s offices that brought in prisoners due to injuries or possible health complications. I documented all information regarding patient conditions and progress. I am able to keep calm in very stressful situations with patients who were incarcerated, intoxicated, and those with a mental illness.
