ROUTINE FUNCTIONS:
Following Nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating daily individual patient care.
Assisting the anesthesiologist during the surgery
Maintaining patent airway-performing tracheal, oral and nasal suctioning as required. Adequate chest physiotherapy to mobilize the secretion. Two hourly change of position, giving steam inhalation, mobilization, administering oxygen.

Set the ventilator parameters according to the patients respiratory status and constant monitoring of the patient
Emergency patient care
-Resuscitating during cardiac and respiratory arrest
-Assisting and performing CPR
Monitoring fluid-electrolyte balance – Intravenous cannulisation, administering intravenous fluids, monitoring and maintaining adequate record of intake and output sending blood samples for investigation and evaluating the lab value.
Pressure monitoring using NIBP connected to bed side monitors or transport monitors.
Monitoring blood glucose value-bedside blood glucose and urine sugar ketone are monitored with dextrostix and with use of glucometer.
Administering drug-oral, sublingual, intravenous, intradermal, subcutaneous,
intra-muscular, intra-tracheal, intra-cardiac, administering drugs and fluids via infusion pumps.
Care of dangerous drugs and their records.
Doing admission, discharge, and transfer of patient.
Monitoring Glasgow coma scale pupillary response to light also monitored change is daily recorded and report.
Meeting nutritional and elimination needs
-Inserting nasogastric tube.
-Giving nasogastric feed.
-Administration of enema, suppositories.
-Urinary catheterization.
-Bladder training by periodic clamping and releasing.
-Giving urinary antiseptic and bladder wash for catheterized patients.
Assessing physical, psychological and psychosocial needs of the client. Collection of personal, social, medical and general data by interviewing formally and informally during various nurse client interactions. Observations, review of records, diagnostic test, etc.
Monitoring vital signs of the client.
Meeting hygienic needs of the patient
Dressing(e.g. bedsore, surgical wounds)

Provide health information to the client and family and participating family in the care of patients.
Teaching using various methods post operative care according to the surgery done
Assisting for various procedures such as cardioversion, defibrillation, ABG analysis echocardiography, ECG, ET intubation, venous putdown.
Preparing the patient for various investigations such as MRI, Angiography, CT Scan, Doppler studies, Digital subtraction angiography, audiometry and echocardiography.
Sample collection for various investigations like haemogram, liver function test, Renal function test, blood and urine culture and sensitivity, routine microscopy, urea creatinine levels, serum albumin,cardiac enzyme level, etc.
