Medtronic Spine & Biologics – Memphis, TN (June 2002-May 2018)
Sr. Director, PMO & Innovation Management (2015-May 2018)
Led the Program Management Office for the $3B Spine & Biologics business.
Chaired the Project Review Committee (PRC) and Portfolio Steering Committee (PSC) responsible for managing execution on a diverse portfolio of 50-60 NPI and feasibility programs.
Developed and implemented a comprehensive Innovation Management process including the formation of a cross-functional Innovation Steering Board to assess technical readiness, manage technical and program risk, and accelerate innovation cycle times.
Drove implementation of the Ideation to Market Release (ID2MR) product development process.
Headed up the DRM (Design for Reliability & Manufacturability) group for Spine BU.
Chaired and directed the PDP Governance Board responsible for managing all Design Controls and Global Commercialization processes for Spine.

Established an opportunity exploration team to identify, develop, and commercialize implant and instrument systems in emerging markets including China, India, and Latin America.
A notable achievement was the establishment of a new R&D Center in Beijing, China to focus on in-country/for-country product development and customer relationship management.
Led the development and launch of numerous new therapies including a novel minimally invasive posterior fixation system generating $50+ million annual revenue and a SI Fusion system for treating degenerative sacroiliac joint disease. A highlight of my time on this team was the development and launch of the first spinal system to surpass $100M in annual revenue.
Developed and launched a comprehensive implant & instrument system for treating adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, generating $25M+ incremental annual revenue.
Developed and launched an industry-first fenestrated pedicle screw system with cement augmentation for the treatment of patients with osteoporosis and vertebral tumors.
Developed and launched a multi-planar adjustable screw and connector system for treating high-grade spondylolisthesis and hyper-kyphotic spinal deformities.

Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Costa Mesa, CA (1997-1999)
R&D Engineer, Indy Car Program
Recruited to join the fledgling R&D team at Toyota’s Southern CA based Indy Car Design and Development Center just as Toyota was entering into the ultra-competitive Indy Car racing industry.
Designed and developed internal components and ancillaries for the 950+ horsepower 3.5 liter turbocharged V8 Indy Car engine including cylinder heads, pistons, valve train, and oiling system.
Conducted FEA design optimization and testing and post-race component failure analysis.
Advanced Controls, Irvine, CA (1994-1997)
Design Engineer
Served as Design Engineer for a leading manufacturer of high-speed CNC printed circuit board drilling and routing machines for the electronics and automotive industries.
Responsibilities included the design & development of linear and servo motor positioning systems, electrical & pneumatic controls, and precision machined, cast, and injection molded components.
Served as Lead Engineer on a new high-throughput precision drilling machine that proved to be the most accurate in the company’s 23 year history.
