Nov 2017 – May 2018 Logisticare Atlanta, GA

Business Intelligence Architect & Developer

Logisticare facilitates rides Medicaid and Medicare patients. All reporting is based on the information from those rides and billing information and they use Qlikvew and QlikSense and Crystal Reports for reporting. Most reporting was being handled in a one off manor. So I created data models inside a temporary warehouse and setup Stored Procedures to access this information in a single source location that all reporting could use. I use SSIS for ETL and other data translations.

Data Model Architect

Designed and created a new temporary data warehouse solution that would be 100% independent of either reporting tool but available to both. I setup fact and dimension data models in a central location to house de-normalized data. Setup stored procedures and views for the data access layer. Created SSIS packages for ETL processes.

Business Analyst

Spent time gathering requirements at the user level in attempt to get users utilizing the Qlikview and QlikSense tool instead of just using it to dump data to Excel and do what they we used to. Trained users more on how to utilize the more extensive Qlikview tool over Excel.

Qlikview and QlikSense Development

QlikSense and Access Point server were already setup. But I optimized the setup, designed and built Qlikview QVD backend data files based off data in the temporary warehouse. Dashboard and application design and creation using Edward Tufte principles. Setup Qlikview report templates for external users to access data in a consistent manner. Setup QlikSense Data Model and Master Items. All work was done using Qlikview scripting and advanced techniques like Set Analysis.

Key Skills

MS SQL Server 2012-2014: Data Modeling, Data Design, Data Architecture, Data Warehouse, Fact and Dimension Snowflake Modeling, SSIS, SQL, Stored Procedures, Indexing, ETL, Data Cleansing, SSRS, Data De-normalization.

March 2016 – October 2017 Grady Memorial Hospital Atlanta, GA

Business Intelligence Architect & Developer

Grady uses the Epic-Clarity system as its main source of information on hospital activity. Much of the BI database design and reporting work was outsourced for a few years which left the system a little challenged. Eventually they moved everything in house. I was responsible for assessing where everything stood and making recommendations for redesign. The Clarity data is held in a MS SQL Server 2012 database. We do not have the Epic Clarity data warehouse, Cohito/Caboodle, in production yet. We are currently working on implementing this in production. In the meantime, I have created data models inside a warehouse and setup Stored Procedures to access this information that reporting can use. Currently we use SSIS for ETL and other data translations. We use SSRS as a main source for Clarity reporting. For BI reporting we use the in-memory 3rd party application Qlikview. For advanced data mining I used the R language.

Architect

I am responsible for the entire administration and setup of the SQL Server 2014 Data Warehouse. I am also responsible for the setup of the Qlikview Server, Publisher, Webserver and its administration. As well as Active Directory security integration and Qlikview’s custom security Section Access. Plus, although I am not a Windows network admin I have made recommendations for required hardware for all applications needs to operate optimally.

Data Model Architect

Designed and created a data warehouse solution that would be 100% independent of any BI or Reporting tools that would eventually use its data. Designed star and snowflake data models in a warehouse to hold de-normalized Clarity data. Setup stored procedures and views for the data access layer. Created SSIS ETL packages to move from the Clarity application to the warehouse.

Business Analyst

Spent time gathering requirements on long overdue projects and new ones. I designed methodology for how we could use a systematic approach to specs gathering and documenting requirements and functional design. Took information customers expected and showed how we could deliver that and more through blending of other data sources and BI techniques.

Qlikview and QlikSense

Setup Qlikview Server, Publisher, QlikSense and Access Point server as well as being the ongoing admin. Designed and built Qlikview QVD backend data files based off data in the SQL Server warehouse. Dashboard and application design and creation using Edward Tufte principles. Setup Qlikview report templates for internal users to base the applications from. Setup QlikSense Data Model and Master Items. All Qlikview and QlikSense work was done using Qlikview scripting and advanced techniques like Set Analysis.

Developer

Without any other resources available I worked as the primary Database and Qlikview/QlikSense application developer for the first few months. Eventually we hired a few other developers and they now work under my direction. We had a need to build Word Clouds from Twitter feeds and I build these using the R Analytics language.

Key Skills

MS SQL Server 2012-2014: Data Modeling, Data Design, Data Architecture, Data Warehouse, Star and Snowflake Modeling, SSIS, SQL, Stored Procedures, Indexing, ETL, Data Cleansing, SSRS, Data De-normalization.

February 2014 – March 2016 JATO Dynamics Inc. Atlanta, GA

Business Intelligence Architect

JATO Dynamics is a global leading data provider for the automotive industry. They provide researched proprietary data to 58 countries in 20+ different languages. Previous to hiring me they primarily used MS Excel to display their data. I was hired to design an entire business intelligence solution that would bring their data into a new cutting edge format. Then lead a team of analysts and developers to build the system. I also taught them how to not only use their existing data but how to blend in other data sources in order to create new information, and provide the customers with new answers and solutions. Much of my time was spent time in Italy working with the European development team. For our work with non-Latin based languages I worked with our Chinese and Japanese teams.

Analyst Design

Spent several months gathering internal and external customer requirements across our global reach. Designed methodology for how we could build single data sources, using multiple languages, across single application layers. Took information customers expected and showed how we could deliver that and more through blending of other data sources and BI techniques.

SQL Server 2012-2014

Designed and created a data solution that would be 100% independent of any BI tools that would eventually use its data. Designed data models in a warehouse to hold denormalized JATO data as well as other sources such as weather and currencies. Designed and created SSIS packages for ETL processing of source data and data exports. Setup indexes for faster access. Setup stored procedures and views for the data access layer. Began working with SQL Server 2014’s new in-memory tables for faster access.

Qlikview

Setup Qlikview server and Access Point server as well as being the ongoing admin. Designed and built Qlikview QVD backend data files based off data in the SQL Server warehouse. Wrote custom code to connect to a web service that provided historical currency information. Dashboard and application design and creation using Edward Tufte principles. Setup Qlikview report templates for internal users to base the applications from. All Qlikview work was done using using Qlikview scripting and advanced techniques like Set Analysis.

December 2012 – February 2014 Norfolk Southern Inc. Atlanta, GA

Business Intelligence Developer

I was hired to design and build a dashboard for C level mgmt. at Norfolk Southern. The dashboard needed to show all train schedules, delays, crew information and cargo. They wanted a complete custom application that used no third party reporting tools. The data was housed in an older COBOL system. We decided to use .Net and Sencha’s ExtJS to create the application.

.Net Development

Used .Net, JavaScript, and ExtJS as the primary technologies. I used .Net(C#) to build a data layer using web services that sat on top of the COBOL system. I used .Net(C#) MVC to access the data web services we created and present the data to the application using JSON format. I used Sencha ExtJS and JavaScript for front end application development and charting. I blended in weather data to help explain why trains were delayed at times.

Skills used on this project: Data Modeling, ETL, JSON, DHTML, JavaScript, C# .Net, Cascading Style Sheets, Web Services, MVC, OOP, Active Directory, .Net Security

August 2007- December 2012 Champs Software (BI Division) Norcross, GA

Lead Consultant

Champs sells SalesLogix CRM and QlikTech Business Intelligence products. I am involved in all aspects of the customer project from initial Sales Engineer to Business Analyst to Project Manager to Custom Developer. After a customer is engaged I sit with them and collect all information for the project and write the findings in Requirements document. Once that is signed off on I write a Technical Specification document based off the Requirements doc. Once that is signed off on I do all custom development in both applications. After all development is complete I roll out the project to the end users. Both products we sell have proprietary toolkits as well as having options for Extending functionality into .Net platforms. The latest version of SalesLogix is just about 100% customized using C#.Net or VB.Net and ASP.Net. I use .Net Security for access to any custom applications. I use ADO.NET Typed Data sets for data access. This requires all data access to be handled through SQL Stored Procedures. I also do all database optimization from initial design to indexing and maintenance. I used Cascading Style Sheets throughout the application to maintain the app look. I used DHTML to build the menus. We primarily use MS SQL Server for our backend database but have used Oracle on occasion. We use Crystal Reports and Active Reports for reporting. The Qlickview products replace the MS SQL Server OLAP Cubes with their own form of cubes. The backend development is basically 100% SQL driven.

Qlikview Certified Developer, and Qlikview Certified Trainer

Whenever QlikTech has an overflow of projects they have a very special few companies that that trust with their projects and we are one of them. I handle all aspects of the project for Qlikview from the initial gathering of requirements, to project scoping, to development, and finally installation and rollout. I then train their technical staff on Qlikview Development techniques. I teach the normal Developer I and II classes as well as the Advanced Scripting classes. I also teach the front end Designer I and II classes to the technical staff and the normal end users as well. Over the past year I have been on 3 larger projects from QlikTech. I worked on a 6 week project for Honda Research and Development near Columbus Ohio back in February and March. I then worked on a week 4 week project in Kentucky for Ohio Valley Wholesale Distributers. Most recently I have worked on a 4 week project in Atlanta Georgia for Moxie Inc. In all cases I built the entire load scripts on the backends of the Qlikview apps, developed all the various front end apps, then trained the technical staff and end user staff as well. I have also worked on several Qlikview projects this year that we have sold in house for Champs Inc. Previous to my current experience with Qlikview I was the Qlikview administrator for our purchased Qlikview in house application at Fidelis Software.

November 1998-June 2002 eCRM University, Inc. Atlanta, GA

Partner

I wore many hats at this position. I spent about 70% of my time as the Lead Developer, about 20% of my time as a Technical Project Leader and about 10% of my time as a Business Analyst.

Lead Developer

In this role my primary focus was to develop custom CRM modules and incorporate them into various commercial CRM packages such as SalesLogix, Pivotal, YouCentric, SalesOutlook, Entice!, and Applix. I lead a 5 person development team on the gathering of initial information, writing detailed design specs, constructing data schema, coding the applications, testing and finally releasing into production. In fat client environments I primarily used Visual Basic 6.0 for application development. In thin client environments I primarily used Visual InterDev 6.0, Frontpage, ASP, VBScript and JavaScript. In mostly all cases I used ADO to connect to the different DBMS’s. All packages had COM / API components that we used to access the various application’s functionality. We primarily used MS SQL Server, Sybase ASA Server, and Oracle for the backends. Used Crystal Reports 8.0 for most reporting work.

Technical Project Manager

In this role my primary focus was to lead the team through the implementation of the commercial software and the various modules we developed on a particular customer site. This included meeting with the client, setting up timelines, implementing the software, user-ability testing, pilot groups, and finally signoff. One example follows:

Micronpc.com Inc., Boise Idaho

8 month project: Lead team through many JAD sessions with Micron development team on gathering design information, writing technical specs, writing data schema, coding, testing, piloting and finally releasing customized CRM modules built into, 100% Java based, CRM package called YouCentric. Used PowerJ 3.5 with JDK 1.1.8 for the IDE. The application ran against Sybase’s ASA database and Oracle 8 database and used a true thin-client JDBC driver for connectivity. I also used Crystal Reports 8 for the reporting tool. We used MS Source Safe to maintain code integrity.

Business Analyst

My primary focus in this role was to facilitate focus group workshops where “best in practice” brainstorming activities occurred. Meet with and interviewed all stakeholders in the CRM implementation project in an attempt to not only deliver quality CRM software but to put an appropriate business process in place in order to assure the best possible ROI. Once we gathered all the information from the interviews and workshops I wrote up the findings in the form of a Functional Requirements Document which would then be translated into a Detailed Design Specification for the development team.

May 1993–Nov 1998 MultiActive Software Atlanta, GA

Developer

Was on a 7- person development team that wrote the first MS SQL Server version of the commercial CRM/SFA package Maximizer. Was primarily focused on the overall performance of the application and the API development. Used Visual C++ 5.0 ‘s newer cursor (recordset) methodology to enhance performance. Work entailed many stored procedures and triggers inside SQL Server 7.0. Used VC++ 5.0 to write the COM / API code but used Visual Basic 5.0 to write a testing application that called all the COM / API functions. Previous to Maximizer, built the commercial SFA/CRM package Sharkware. Initially, it was a single user application but grew into a Client-Server application using Sybase’s SQL Anywhere Server. Wrote the Sharkware application using Visual Basic 3.0. It used direct ODBC calls to connect to the DBMS’s. Used Crystal Reports for all reporting. Wrote Company’s original Web Page using straight HTML. Headed up an initiative to create a browser version of Sharkware. Used Sybase’s NetImpact Dynamo and JavaScript to code prototype.

Education
