Work experience
As of May 9th, 2018 I do CWI contract work at BWS Specialty Fabrications in Springville, New York.
Excepting new construction jobs, most of my pipe welding jobs were short duration turnarounds or shutdowns that lasted anywhere from 3 weeks to three months, working 12 hour shifts (or more as the job required), 7 days a week. Keeping steady employment required working for several different companies during any given year and traveling all over the country for work. The following are some of the jobs I have held in the past;
Platzer Shipyard on the Houston Shipping Channel 1984 -1985, Mundy Companies 9/16/1986 to 12/13/1991 on various shutdowns/turnarounds in the Bayport/Houston/Pasadena TX area, Blount Construction Frackville PA trash burner/co-generation plant new construction summer/fall of 1988, SWB Construction shutdown on a paper mill in Hamilton Ohio summer of 1988, NIC Const. Frackville PA trash burner/co-generation plant new construction and shutdown on GP paper mill E. Millinocket Maine fall of 1988, JE Meritt Const Hymont Plastic Plant Bayport TX new construction 9/89 to 11/89, Kellogg/Brown and Root at Exxon refinery in Baytown TX shutdown 2/86 to 3/86, Bell Contractors 4/91 to 2/92 at West Valley NY on a nuclear fuel reclamation project new construction and another few months on new construction at a medical center in downtown Buffalo NY. Due to a lack of company records I was unable to obtain documentation of my employment history with Bell Contractors as well as Fluor Daniels Const. Co for whom I worked numerous shutdowns and turnarounds in Texas from the mid to late 1980’s as a combination pipe weldor.
Additionally, I have worked as a pipe weldor for several smaller construction and maintenance companies whose names I do not remember as it was over twenty years ago i.e. a new construction trash burner co-generation plant in East Rygate Vermont sometime in 1993, a new construction gas sweetening plant in Shute Creek Wyoming in 1985, a shutdown at Lyondell Petrochemical in Pasadena TX for Piping Engineering Co. I believe in 1987 or 1988, a new construction boiler job in Glenn Falls NY in 1989 or 1990, a boiler shutdown job at a ConEd plant in Connecticut in 1993, and several small fabrication shops before I attended Houston Community College for Pipe Welding.
Tiring of the constant travel and long hours, in the mid 1990’s I became self-employed doing fabrication work, repairing agricultural and heavy construction equipment, and other welding jobs at my home. I farm a small acreage as well. In May of 2016 I decided to return to the construction trade, and at my own expense obtained AWS certification as a Certified Welding Inspector with API 1104 endorsement, and certification as API 1169 Pipeline Construction Inspector n December 2016. I cuurently perform contract work for BWS Custom Fabrication in Springville, NY.
