CBC Procedures: Pentra 60+- Ran CBC’s to ensure patients were able to get chemo; by looking for critical / flagged results and notifying nurses and physicians of the types of results.

Quality Control- Running start up and shut down, run all controls and verify before running daily controls and a concentrated clean.

Verification of new lot & controls- Checked controls to ensure none were expired, and ran 15/5 controls to make sure they all stayed in black in which shows these controls were in date and none were expired.

Instrument Calibration- I was responsible to check proper lot numbers, run control start a new work list to begin the day.

Running patient samples- Input patients MRN to ensure it brought the proper patent up before running their CBC. If it was a critical results had to get a signature from physician or nurses right away. If it flagged it needed to be removed from chart and re-ran in 15 minutes.

Reagent Management- Always making sure you had in inventory at least 2 reagents of each product. Never let reagents get below 20%; this allows the Pentra to work properly by cleaning and changing reagents.

Instrument Trouble Shooting- Call your supervisor if there is some problem with the machine. She will walk you through steps to fix the problem.

Referencing labs- Look into Oncotype to see what labs were ordered on the patient, check demographics and insurance information. All specimens that aren’t done in-house, will need to go to Lab Corp. or Quest depending on insurance then complete requisition,

Placing electronic orders- All orders go to Lab Corporation, Amerpath, and Quest.

Recording patient data- Record all in-house specimens in patients chart like UA results, PT/INR and any other specimens per protocol.
