Manufacturing Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

CCS is a manufacturer and service provider of laser printer toner cartridges and copier supplies. CCS provides full service office printing strategies and consulting, managed print services, hardware sales, 3D printing products, and printer service.

Key accomplishments:

Reduced direct manufacturing labor costs from 9% to 3.8% by implementing Six Sigma and lean manufacturing strategies and by re-aligning production layout for increased output and establishing measurable standards of operation and staff training, while eliminating redundancy and waste.

Implementation of new MRP system and purchasing guidelines. The utilization of Kanban methods to manage vendors and inventory turns with a just in time delivery implementation has increased inventory turns from 12X to 23X and subsequent increases in cash flow.

Direct and manage Purchasing and Materials department. Developed strategic vendor partnerships necessary to test and qualify components and bill of materials for product certification. Through significant improvements in the sales forecasting process and the consolidation of qualified vendors, coupled with leveraging price and shortened lead times has yielded direct material cost reductions from 7% of sales down to a historic low of 5%.

Through strategic sales channel development and new product introduction, we have generated year over year sales growth of 23% with incremental gains in gross margins, market penetration and diversification, customer retention, and bottom line profits in the double digits.

Increased gross margins from 34% to 49% by expanding product lines, developing new cost effective products, reduced direct labor production costs, and leveraging our buying power to lower material costs.

Created and developed a superior Quality Control department that governs all manufacturing and warehouse operations of the company. From rigorous component and cartridge testing and certifications to vendor qualification and written documentation, conformance protocols, continuous improvement objectives management and analysis, AQL in line production testing, defect analysis, waste elimination, Safety training and monitoring, OSHA compliance and audit reporting, and customer satisfaction.

ProtectConnect - Irvine, CA Sept 2004 – Sept 2009

Chief Operating Officer

ProtectConnect Invented and holds 23 patents for a product line of revolutionary electrical systems utilized for commercial building construction. Responsibilities included both domestic and international operations, patent portfolio management, product compliance and regulation, accounting, P&L performance, quality control and logistics.

Key accomplishments:

Created the operational structure and established domestic operations and distribution network to commence sales and manufacturing for this startup company.

Sales growth from $80K first year to $2.7M in year 3.

Grew gross margins from 18% to 35% during the first 3 years through engineering materials and product refinements, efficiency gains in operations, and leveraged purchase increases to product cost reductions.

Facilitated all UL and CSA certifications.

Lead the expansion to a second sales and distribution facility on the east coast in 2007.

Vice President - Manufacturing

Manufacturing Vice President for a $34M domestic products manufacturing and assembly division and an $8M import and distribution division with two facilities with combined net income of $3.2M.

Key accomplishments:

Created a highly responsive customer service oriented organization while establishing a solid operational foundation resulting in an increase of sales from $29M to $34M in two years, and a recovery from a net loss of $1.4M in 2001 to a $3.2M profit in fiscal 2003.

Established and realigned manufacturing and operational standards utilizing Six Sigma and 5S principals along with staff assessment and training which resulted in a decrease in direct labor spend from 15% to 12.6% within the first year and further realization of continuous improvement objectives and reductions over the next two years.

Implemented JD Edwards MRP software and supply chain structure which provided immediate return as inventory turns were vastly improved and vendor lead times reduced, resulting in significant improvements in customer order fill rates, reduction in manufacturing lead times, and reduction of inventory by over $2M.

Operations Vice President for a $41M domestic products manufacturing. Responsible for multi-state manufacturing, operations, engineering, purchasing, inventory control, warehousing, logistics, and personnel.

Key accomplishments:

Created the manufacturing and operational standards for this highly successful market leading company with 600 employees over 4 facilities with beginning sales totaling $1.5M to $41M with solid incremental profit growth and a strong balance sheet.

Managed the construction of a new 50,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Winston-Salem

Established a network of international vendors in Asia and the Philippines to provide parts and components needed to grow our brand and create seasonal offerings to further expand our markets here in the US.
