January 2016-June 2016: Contract Clinician, House of Ruth. Provision of direct Clinical Services, specializing in best-practice trauma, addiction, and mental health recovery to various House of Ruth clients/settings as described below and as a result of House of Ruth’s gaining status as a KY Medicaid Behavioral Health Mutli-Speciality Behavioral Health Group in Summer 2015.
October 2014-January 2016: Director of Clinical Services, House of Ruth. As a result of the organization’s mission-driven strategic planning and my concurring professional decision, my Director responsibilities evolved to focus on: strengthening and expanding clinical and therapeutic services and programs including: Glade House Transitional Living Program and Emergency Shelter, serving adults who are homeless and living with HIV, co-occurring addiction, mental illness, trauma and societal marginalization; Intensive Outpatient Program exclusive to HIV-positive individuals seeking to recover from addiction and co-occurring disorders; continued clinical supervision to all agency master's-level and case management staff, further development of community-based mental health/wellness and art therapy groups for individuals, families and children living with HIV; and successful development of a new funding source needed to expand agency’s mission: the organization becoming a Multi-Specialty Behavioral Health Group reimbursed through Kentucky Medicaid expansion.
September 2011-October 2014: Director of Programs, House of Ruth, a local leading not-for-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen lives for those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS through advocacy, basic needs provision, housing, community programs and mental health services. Position is responsible for directing all client programs and services, including: supervising case management and clinical staff in direct provision of services; ongoing development of programs policies, procedures and systems; and management of over $1,000,000 annually in federal, state, and local government grants and foundation funding that supports these programs and services essential to nearly 1000 individuals and families living with HIV, Louisville, KY.
July 2010-September 2011: Community Support Supervisor, Wellspring. Case Management and Therapeutic Services (including group and individual verbal and art therapies) to formerly homeless adults with Co-Occurring Disorders living in Wellspring-owned sober-living independent housing. Program and chart development and management; HUD documentation and grant management; addiction/psychiatric/medical crisis management; supervision of another Wellspring Case Manager; resumed supervision of Wellspring agency-wide Expressive Therapist.
February 2008- January 2012: Independent Art Therapy Practitioner, Dougherty Counseling Services, providing individual and family therapy to adults, adolescents, and children utilizing art therapy and verbal psychotherapy interventions. Conduct art-based mental health, trauma, learning disabilities, and addiction assessments if needed, develop ongoing therapeutic relationships, and maintain all appropriate documentation and communication with other providers, New Albany, IN.
July 2007- July 2010: Expressive Therapist, half-time, Wellspring’s Crisis Unit. Development and implementation of art therapy at newly-opened program, including group and individual art psychotherapy and promoting consumer Arts involvement through annual agency-wide consumer art exhibition; provide clinical leadership and supervision to Crisis Unit staff in milieu treatment; admission/clinical weekend coverage. Continued clinical on-call rotation responsibilities for the agency.
April 2005- May 2007: Expressive Therapies Supervisor, Wellspring. Supervised Wellspring Expressive Therapist, providing clinical supervision and guidance in Art Therapy Program for Wellspring. Continued clinical on-call rotation and PRN staffing agency wide.
April 2005- March 2006: Clinical Supervisor, Wellspring Journey House. Responsible for directing and implementing clinical programming for 12-step focused residential treatment program for women who are homeless and coping with co-occurring disorders of serious mental illness and chemical addiction. Supervised program coordinator, second-shift clinician, rehabilitation counselors. Focusing on trauma/PTSD treatment of women in Recovery. Utilizing art therapy training to implement process- focused treatment as an identified “best-practice” for individuals with co-occurring disorders. Developed a strong working knowledge of use of psychotropic medications and Louisville Metro Area case management resources/contact.
March 2003- April 2005: Expressive Therapist, Wellspring, a progressive not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote the recovery of persons with mental illness through leadership in the development of quality housing and rehabilitative services. Position is responsible for development and implementation of agency-wide art therapy program, including group and individual art psychotherapy and art-as-therapy, promoting consumer involvement in the Arts as a meaningful wellness identity in the community, Louisville KY.
March 2000-March 2003: Creative Arts Therapist on adult inpatient psychiatric unit, Woodhull Medical Center. Clinical team member responsible for creative arts therapy treatment program, treatment and discharge planning, assessment, and individual psychotherapy. Provided long-term creative arts therapies coverage on Woodhull’s medically-managed detoxification unit. Also involved in development and implementation of Creative Arts Therapies in mental health recovery including client art gallery, Brooklyn, NY.
October 1999-March 2000: Senior Activity Therapist on children’s psychiatric unit, Elmhurst Hospital Center. Planned and facilitated activity program for acute psychiatric inpatient children, including a strong emphasis in art therapy group intervention, using both art psychotherapy and art-as-therapy approaches. Also led patient and sibling art therapy support group, participated in team-approach treatment planning, and provided individual therapeutic support of child patients, Queens, NY.
