WORK HISTORY

Sr. IT Project Manager, 01/2018 to 06/2018 – (operating in the role of Consulting Trusted Advisor)

Veritas Document Solutions (an RR Donnelley Co.) – Buffalo Grove, IL

The President and Vice President engaged me in order to take the company private, with a buy-out and separation from the parent company that required the following:

Complete access to the data center to inventory every server, storage device (SAN, NAS, Deskside) Databases, Load Balancer, all Network components including switches, routers, entire fibre fabric, muxes/demuxes, amplifiers, etc. I also inventoried every software license for both server operating system and all applications resident on servers (i.e., monitoring performance and security, etc.) and clients (laptops, desktops) including all individual productivity software applications (MS Office, Google Suite, etc.) As well, I collected, segregated and reviewed every Service/Help Desk ticket for selection of a Managed Services Provider (MSP). All of this was in preparation to migrating all IT and Service/Help Desk Services away from parent company and to both a Cloud-hosting vendor and a MSP for those services not on the cloud.

I wrote a comprehensive RFP (Request for Proposal) for distribution to 7 cloud-hosting vendors, including Amazon (AWS), MS Azure, Google, IBM (SoftLayer), as well as CDW and 2 other smaller vendors.

In order to make the best possible objective selection, I developed an extensive spreadsheet that compared the current parent company hosted services to each of the cloud vendors comparing a cafeteria selection of managed services. I extended this out for 5 years to get a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). This provided criteria for cost comparison, but I also wanted to have an objective selection based on other equally important considerations, such as encryption of data both in flight and at rest for security since we work with PHI, PII and PCI data on a daily basis. I developed a comprehensive decision matrix that allowed for weighting of each criterion.

The second selection was for a Managed Services Provider for services, such as Help Desk/Deskside Support that were not covered by the Cloud Hosting Provider.

Following this, I wrote a Transition Services Agreement (TSA), so that we could legally engage the parent company to continue to provide all IT services until the cloud migration and the MSP onboarding was completed.

After this project I was asked to form a PMO (Project Management Office). I then proceeded to develop all the processes, procedures, templates, artifacts, and trained the BA’s (Business Analysts) in requirements gathering and project definition.

I have now on-boarded two new clients, Athene Annuity and Life and Prudential Financial using the new PMO processes.

Following that, I had interviewed 14 project managers and hired 2, providing them with coaching and guidance with the goal of achieving repeatable successes.

I have now been asked to train the development Team in the use of the Agile Development methodology for the Prudential Financial Project of 18 month duration with 5 deliverables/go live dates.

In the role as a Trusted Advisor, I am pulled into business meetings to provide my expert consultant viewpoint and assessment for decisions and direction.

Over the years, my byline has become, “I help enable companies to achieve their maximum potential”.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Program Manager, 06/2016 to 03/2017 - Consultant

Outerwall / Redbox (Apollo Global Management) – Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Implement VMware ESXi hosts, NSX virtual networking security software, along with Palo Alto smart firewalls. Use Layer 2 Adjacency for networking/firewalls that will allow for dual active systems, with identical IP addresses for secondary DR system.

Achieve High Availability for all servers so that failure of any server will immediately be picked up by the duplicate server at

the DR data center. Due to a distance of only 10 miles between data centers, affording only .5 milliseconds of signal

transmission latency, achieve synchronous writing of all customer transactions to duplicate databases.

Terminate contract and decommission hosted data center that did not provide adequate DR and BC services.

Managed the rebranding and right-sizing of contracts for all security tools and applications and deployed upgrades on new servers in the Redbox data center after separation from Outerwall (Seattle) and acquisition by Apollo Global Management. This included Arcsight, Tripwire, Firemon, Qualys, TrendMicro, Splunk, Beyond Trust, replacement of Juniper internal and CheckPoint perimeter firewalls with Palo Alto smart firewalls for internal and perimeter monitoring. I worked with Legal, the Application Vendors and IT to build and deploy the virtual servers and install/test the upgraded Security Applications.

Managed the process to renew contracts with existing providers, such as Tech Mahindra (TechM) and the RFI/RFQ/RFP process to select a new MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) Digital Hands with AT&T. Worked with Legal to structure contract, Finance for approval of budgeted funds and Purchasing to release P.O. Managed the on-boarding, training and integration of our Incident Management, Trouble Ticket tracking system and wireless alerts for Security Breaches.

I authored white papers entitled, “A Guide for the Incident Response Team in the Proper Handling of Malware”, “Encrypting and Password Protecting Files”, “Secure Printing”, “Securing the Web Browser” (for Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox – we didn’t use iOS) and developed a “Cryptographic Key Generation and Management Process” that allowed for termination of an expensive contract with Venafi, the prior Key service provider. I also authored monthly “InfoSec Insights” flyers distributed via email to all employees and posted on bulletin boards on each floor.

Senior Program Manager, 12/2015 to 01/2016 - Consultant

Senior Program Manager, Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) - 06/2014 to 08/2015 - Consultant

Walgreen Co. – Lincolnshire, IL

Managed the largest individual Infrastructure Projects – including a Win10 upgrade as part of an Office 365 migration and Walgreens' first deployment to the cloud. For the cloud deployment, performed a comprehensive RFI, RFP, RFQ selection

process and built 3 environments (Dev, Test and Prod) on the MS Azure Cloud. PHI and PII data ensured that Legal, Data Governance, Security and Disaster Recovery resources on the Team reviewed every decision. Used OAM (Oracle Access Manager) residing within the datacenters, which communicated with NetIQ Identity Manager on the Webservers to provide a pass-thru proxy allowing for authentication within the secure Walgreens network before end users could access the cloud environment. All authentication, and all data was encrypted in transit and at rest, including within the databases, using SQL TDE (Transparent Data Encryption), a native encryption that does not impact performance.

Managed the internal IT Transformation Program for the merger of Walgreens with Alliance Boots. This included the identification

of common stack applications per department, plus MS Outlook email, Active Directory, MS Office 365, SharePoint, etc. The program

also revamped how IT interacted with the Business to ensure a closer alliance with openness, transparency and budgeting for IT

capacity planning based on forecasting of Annual Project Portfolios.

Managed the "One Walgreens" Program with quarterly releases for new applications and upgrades to existing applications to

all 8800 stores nationwide. (15-20 Projects per Release.) Concurrently managed the "Loyalty - Balance Rewards" Program.

(5-10 Projects per quarterly Release.) Deployed Automated Guided Vehicles at 5 warehouses.

Managed the deployment of EPIC and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) to 8800 stores across the nation, accessed by 70K providers

and with an average of 125K transactions per day.

which selected Vertica. Migrated a 50 Petabyte database from DB2 to Vertica, as an enabler for BHI, with great success.

Managed the Unisys Stealth pilot and implementation projects. Stealth, initially developed for the DOD, encrypts all data

in flight and at rest with almost negligible application performance degradation.

Managed the Network Segmentation Project to isolate the HIPAA defined “Clearing House” BlueExchange (handles PHI transactions between all Blues Plans) and the Enterprise Data Warehouse, behind 5 concentric firewalls (Cisco ASA Next-Gen) with other firewall segments protecting assets of decreasing value and risk. (BCBSA’s Data Warehouse contains PHI, PII and even PCI data for 1/3 of the U.S. population, approximately 110 Million citizens, so security is of the utmost importance!)
