To Whom It May Concern:
Thank you for your consideration of my interest in joining your organization. I have spent the last five months as a Social Work Psychotherapist for South Nassau Community Hospital in their Hempstead Mental Health Counseling Center. Prior to this experience, I have held psychotherapy positions at a substance abuse clinic in Jamaica, Queens, a private practice in Manhattan, and a mental health clinic in Wyandanch. While in graduate school, I had two fabulous internships; one at Glen Cove High School and another at Queens Law Associates.
I believe that I am an exceptional candidate for this position because I have a genuine desire to help people, in addition to a non-judgmental view of others, which has proven to help me build rapport and trust with clients quite easily. Although I have only been working in this field for two years, I have heard many clients say that they were surprised at how quickly they were able to trust me, take risks and do the work of honestly assessing and changing their lives.
Prior to my work as a Social Worker, I received an MS in Reading Education and taught reading to children from grades K -8 for 14 years. Additionally, over the past 25 years, my efforts in the volunteer world have yielded service to many hundreds of Long Island residents. I have served on several community boards, including The Junior League of Long Island. I organized charitable events, such as field trips and activities for sick and for low-income children. I’ve voluntarily attended trainings, organized and lead several support groups including a Caregivers Connections group through a local church and a Family to Family educational and support group though NAMI.
I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to share the scope of my experiences and to discuss how I might bring value to your organization. I would also be happy to provide references upon request. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Lisa Currie, LMSW
