HD-1 Mobile Unit Engineer(Staff) at Raycom Sports

E-2 on Raycom Sports' HD-1 and HD-3, servicing Sports Broadcasting contracts nationwide both internally and for outside broadcast entities. Pre-Season NFL production for New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, and New Orleans Saints home and away shows. ACC Football and Basketball production engineering support for Raycom, ESPN, and FOX South. MLS home show production engineering support for FC Dallas and Colorado Rapids soccer clubs. CBS Sports special event mobile production and one off production jobs for various other broadcasters. I was recruited by Raycom to Co-EIC on HD-3 in order to support a newly minted EIC with limited technical skills. I was later transferred to the HD-1 mobile unit to help service the more critical accounts as E-2. I resigned from Raycom in order to return to freelance status with Gamecreek and my other preferred clients. This also allows me to pursue a wider range of my business and personal activities.

I was temporarily assigned to GTX-11 with the FOX Sport's NFL C-Game production crew until their regular three year E-2 could return. I supported all cameras, fibre, audio, telco, MU to MU interconnect, and IT infrastructure along with the B-Unit which houses 1st & 10, FOXBOX, two VIZ Graphics servers along with the associated statistics personnel and their operators. I also assisted with A-Unit operations as needed.
I previously worked on GTX-8 supporting ESPN's NHRA Drag Racing production crew during the last year of their 19 seasons of coverage. As the E-2 standby engineer I supported an editing suit equipped with Adobe Premier PC platform workstations, EVS XT3, Fletcher Camera remote controlers, audio submix, and maintenance engineering department. I provided technical and operational support for an Adobe editing suite and all other departments in this three mobile unit facility, within the ESPN NHRA TV Compound, and the tracks where we worked. In addition I provided diagnostic and electronic repairs on all broadcast equipment ancillary to on site production operations.
I was assigned to GTX-12 during the summer months between the end of the NHRA season and the beginning of the NFL season. During this time I covered Davis Cup Tennis, COPA Soccer in Philadelphia, NBC Boxing, and a number of Telemundo entertainment shows. Freelance Aerial Photographer for sports entertainment programming and film production in the U.S. I was a Cineflex V14 operator under contract with the Van Wagner Airship Group. I shot HD video from the Direct TV and Hood Blimps for sports entertainment shows including: NFL, MLB, NBA, & NCAA Bowl Games. A close working relationship developed with my client which resulted in them giving me greater responsibilities. These included component level maintenance on their CineFlex camera systems and all of the RF and all other associated electronic equipment. I also consulted with them on operational and technical matters including broadcast equipment recommendation and modification of field operations protocols.

Senior RF Engineer & Robotic Camera Specialist (Staff) at CP Communications September 2011 - June 2013 (1 year 10 months)
Engineered RF data transport and camera systems for HD network sports and entertainment productions. Design and integrate fibre optic transport and signal processing systems from third party products(Multidyne, Telecast, Opticom, etc.) and build prototypes for in house fiber optic transport product design with my staff. Refine prototypes and help develop production products for equipment rental. I also integrated RF Camera packages with multiple RX sites for ESPN & Page 3
FOX Sports Entertainment contracts using Link, Cobham, and GIGAWAVE MPEG4 TX/RX sets and other components in a number of baseband frequencies including 1.4GHz, 2GHz, and 7GHz. We utilized a variety of cameras with these systems including: Sony P-1, 1500, F-3, F-55's, and a variety of Grass Valley-Thomson cameras all integrated with RF data links for HD video, camera control data(RS-232 & RS-422), and Genlock(CVBS & Tri Level). Design/Tested and refined RF/ IF over single mode fibre systems for all of the previously mentioned camera systems. Some of CP's clients at the time were: X-Games, Winter X, FOX Baseball, FOX Football, ESPN Baseball, ESPN Football, FOX & ESPN College Football packages, Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction, and various other clients. Transmission Engineer for sports entertainment programming. Encode, Compress, and X-mit HD Programming via ASI stream from remote locations throughout the continental United States. MLB, NHL, and NBA away feeds for TSN, RSN, & RDS sports networks on CTV & ESPN. Get First Mile with Vyvx, Bell Canada, Ascent Media, HTN, and other fibre optic data transmission service providers then transmit and monitor the ASI stream. Modify and/or troubleshoot bit stream as needed. I also would maintain and repair the electronic system components in the transmission Fly-Pack as needed. Ship transmission package via SOS Global and Transgroup to it's next destination after each feed. In addition, I was also an EIC/Co-EIC on Domes Fleet of HD mobile television production studio trucks for the programming previously mentioned in the Transmission Engineering duties section. Dome's mobile units are similar to Gamecreek Video's fleet and are equipped with Evertz EQX/EMR Routers, Calrec audio systems, and Sony HD cameras along with the same contingent of electronic production equipment ancillary to remote HD sports broadcast operations.
Aerial Photographer/RF Camera Tech

Operate FLIR-UM Camera in Jet Helicopters covering Network Sports Entertainment Events. I also would work as a helicopter camera tech and RF camera tech covering NFL, MLB, and entertainment events for ESPN/ABC, NBC, and other network clients. Towards the end of my time at Total RF I was put into an RF Audio QC position for their CBS Sports golf coverage. I covered NFL, MLB, Boston Marathon 2004-06, New York Marathon 2004 & 2005, NFL 2004-06, MLB 2004-06, MLB Division Series 2004-06 for NBC, ESPN/ABC, CBS. I also covered the Democratic National Convention and Election Night 2004 for CNN and the BBC. Aerial Photographer covering breaking news for FOX-5 WYNY in the Tri-State Metropolitan area. I would navigate our aircraft to the scene of breaking news stories and shoot SD/HD video for broadcast. I would also operate the on board microwave transmitters and program their GPS controllers to acquire local microwave receivers depending upon where we were geographically located. I performed maintenance, installation, repairs, and retrofit on the helicopters compliment of broadcast equipment. I was chosen to start up ABC/WJLA's airborne operation in Washington, DC after the 911 imposed "No Fly" restrictions were lifted in late 2003. This is because I had experience in aircraft avionics maintenance by working for FOX's avionics maintenance contractor. This is actually how I got the job in the first place. For most of my time at Helinet I worked weekends "On Call" until August 2003 when I went to Ft. Meade's Tipton Airport to support the ABC/WJLA Aerial ENG Operation start up full time. Operated Gyrocam SD camera system, 2 GHz directional microwave transmitter with GPS modem, various on board cameras with switcher, audio panel, DVC Pro VTR, and comms. Navigated to news scenes, shot video for live broadcast, and occasionally reported on air for news hits. Position ended when NBC's search for a female photographer/reporter was concluded successfully. I worked the afternoon shift after Dan Rice Monday through Friday, 1400-2330.

Rig and fly JBL Aalto system or A4 system front fill, rear fill, FOH control, and recording system for international touring acts in "A" Venues worldwide. Maintain and repair all electronic equipment ancillary to large sound reinforcement systems on site with diagnostic equipment and hand tools. My time at Audio Analysts was not contiguous since I was freelance, but I maintained my relationship with the company until 1998 and did several tours for them during that time frame. I was a mobile Ku and C-Band Satellite Uplink operator for sports, entertainment, and news feeds for Guy Communications out of Austin, Texas and Kingsland, Texas. I drove both SNV's and semi-trailer rigs for mobile production clients mostly in the south and southwestern United States. I operated both parabolic and offset arrays with MCL Klystron(C-Band) or Traveliing Wave Tube(Ku- Band) HPA's, Scientific Atlanta exciters(5550), and all other ancillary signal processing equipment Page 6
utilized in satellite uplink operations. I accessed both Ku and C-Band satellites, cross poll, test, and modulated during remote broadcast operations. I serviced, calibrated, and did emergency service on all uplink equipment. I also programmed and modified equipment as needed for Leitch, Videocypher, and other types of encryption. Held Class 1 FCC operators license and Class "A" Texas Driver license prior to conversion to CDL.

Electronics Technician for touring sound reinforcement and stage lighting companies producing large scale concert tours in the music industry. Fly PA or lighting grid with standard rigging equipment including: Steel/Wire rope, Shackles, CM and Verlinde Chain motors, proprietary sound grid frames, triangle lighting truss, Box truss, and other equipment ancillary to stage rigging.
