Reconstruction of Springfield Gardens, Construction Cost 51.3 Million
The New York City Departments of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Transportation (DOT) broke ground on the fourth phase of a comprehensive water and sewer infrastructure upgrade project that will help alleviate chronic roadway flooding in Springfield Gardens, Queens. The $51 million project includes the installation of 84 catch basins, approximately 2.8 miles of new sewer lines, nearly 3 miles of water mains and new streets and sidewalks. The project, which will be managed by the City’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC), will also include the creation of a Bluebelt, a wetland that both stores and treats storm water runoff. Using green infrastructure principles, stormwater will be collected in the newly installed catch basins and discharged into wetlands where the water will be naturally filtered.

Reconstruction of 47th Avenue, Queens
Queens Community Board 2 requested that the work on this project to be completed off hours as to minimize the impact to the eight schools in the area. In addition, the economic impact to the business community may be devastating if the project were not done on off hours. Additionally, if the project were to be completed during weekday/daytime hours, the heavy volume of traffic from the Queens Borough Bridge could be greatly impacted, possibly causing severe traffic backups into Manhattan. I prepared all change orders to compensate the contractor on a time and material basis for the differential costs associated with installation of 8”, 12” and 20” water mains, sewers and highway work during nights and weekends in lieu of weekday work, prepared all requirements as built and close out document.
