•Have a B.Com degree, with business acumen and knowledge in sales, marketing, corporate and business law, purchasing, general management, database management, and information storage, security, backup and recovery

•Have approximately 1 year remaining in my studies to become a CA with ACCA which is a global accounting body based in the UK. Once complete I hoped to merge it with CPA Ontario (Canada) after writing two subjects, namely Canadian Taxation and Canadian Business Law

•Can do pretty much anything in accounting at this stage of my CA designation (equivalent to level 3 of 5 possible levels of the CPA Canada)

•As mentioned before I am not a specialist in dealing with Advanced Canadian Tax issues because my designation is from an UK based institution, but I can learn it in no time to be sufficiently adept to perform the job

•Advanced Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook

•Fluent read and written English, conversational in Afrikaans, completed level 1 French at the Berlitz School of languages, and have spoken it for over a year

Professional experience

Accounting:

Was responsible for all the departments of a hotel, which included: reception, cleaning, rooms, kitchen, and bar and restaurant cost centers

Created the initial budget for the hotel in 2010 with its expected sales levels, and did the costing and budgeting for the hotel for the next three years

Designed and implemented the process of the accounting system by the use of pre-numbered invoices, purchase vouchers, and a daily stock taking system for the kitchen, bar and restaurant

Authorized purchase vouchers and purchase orders in accordance with the budget, and received orders

Created the General Ledger accounts at Skyway Hotel from when its operations began in 2010

Recorded daily transactions in Sales, Purchases and General journals, and posted those transactions to the ledger accounts

Did costing by apportioning food items like meat, for weighing and costed the food items according to their price and number of portions used in a dish

Did the same for other food items like millet and cornmeal for local dishes, and potatoes for fries

Did daily stock taking in kitchen of those food items as well as for beverages at the bar

Maintained a constant petty cash float, and did banking, and bank reconciliation

Did Receivables, Payables, some Payroll, month end Trial Balance, and produced the end-of-year Financial Statements

Maintained the (fixed and current) asset register

Hired, managed and trained ten staff members from every department

Problem Solving:

Strong mathematical and accounting skills

Excellent questionnaire design skills, sampling method selection skills, and report writing skills (including descriptions in layman terms to make it useful)

Intermediate statistical analysis (SPSS) and language skills (English, Afrikaans, and very little French, at level 1 of 9 possible levels)
