- Built Matlab/Simulink simulation models for a self-adaptive double-loop fuzzy-PID controller.

- Developed both the hardware (PCB) and software of an FPGA-based brushless DC motor (BLDC) controller which using CAN bus for communication.

Research Projects

Software-De ned Data Center Hard Disk Drives (HDD) C/Bash/MySQL Collaborated with Google Corporation July 2017 { Present

- Realized a lesystem which could relax HDD raw bit error rate by 3 4 orders of magnitude meanwhile induces < 9% of redundancy overhead and < 1% throughput degradation for ne-grained data update/read workloads.

- Redesign error correction coding (ECC) modules inside an HDD controller which could work cohesively with the lesystem to further reduce tail latency overhead to < 10%.

- Measured IOPS of di erent workloads based on the read/write patterns collected from Linux kernel.

A Joint Distributed & Local Erasure Coding Algorithm C/Bash/Assembly Language A Research Project on Data Storage Recovery Nov. 2016 { June 2017

- Designed an algorithm to increase encoding throughput by leveraging the characteristics of erasure coding when data storage systems are protected by both distributed and local erasure coding.

- Developed the proposed encoder/decoder on a general-purpose PC with the Galois Field (GF) calculation acceleration supported by Intel SSE 4.2 instruction sets, encoding throughput increases by > 25%.

Filesystem-level Transparent Local Erasure Coding to Facilitate Scaling C/C++/Bash Collaborated with Western Digital Corporation Oct. 2016 { Oct. 2017

- Validated the feasibility and e ectiveness to apply erasure coding into local lesystems to increase the reliability of data storage system for the rst time in the world.

- Designed a lesystem to mitigate soft sector read failures, for coarse-grained write/read workloads it can reduce the 99-percentile tail latency by > 65% with <2% coding redundancy even the HDD decoding failure rate is 10 3.

- Developed techniques to address issues of unaligned HDD write and ne-grained data update.

Software-based Error Correction for In-Memory Key-Value Stores (IMKV) C/C++ Funded by National Science Foundation Oct. 2014 { Sep. 2015

- Realized fast software-based encoding/decoding engines for BCH code. The encoding throughput is 4 compared with the baseline case.

- Proposed a solution with very strong memory error correction at very small coding redundancy for IMKV.

- Embedded software BCH into Memcached and RAMCloud and measured the performance of workloads.

Analysis of Co-site Interference between Radio Communications Matlab/Simulink A Research Project on Communication System Feb. 2011 { Jan. 2012

- Analyzed the nonlinear characteristics of ampli ers e ect on co-site communication interference, then built a simulation model of ampli ers.

- Proposed a method using SINAD, BER or EVM as a criterion to predict the co-site interference of communication systems.

Positioning System Based on Radio Frequency Identi cation (RFID) C/C++ A Research Project on Communication System June 2010 { Jan. 2011

- Designed RFID cards and readers with RF chip RF2401, and using RS-485 to send and receive messages.

- Applied ZigBee technique to improve the reliability and security of the RFID system. Internship Experience

Intern of Embedded System Engineer at Hollysys Automation Technologies Ltd. Sep. 2009 { May. 2010

- Developed a receiver module which generates a frequency-shift keying (FSK) radio frequency (RF) signal to communicate with the host.
