Summary of Activities;

During my career, I have been working in all phases of Instrumentation and Control Systems Design and Engineering. My assignments have taken me to many parts of the United States and the world, where my training and experiences have been used in the development and training of other Designers and Engineers. I have been active for over 40 years in the ISA, the international society of Automation, and I am a Life Senior Member.

I have a number of years of experience working in and around chemical plants and refineries. The following are some examples;

In Cardon, Venezuela, I worked at the Maraven refinery for 18 months while the refinery was being revamped. I was responsible for all new instrument installation work, as well as all upgrades to existing systems. At the end of my assignment I was promoted to project engineer responsible for all instrumentation and control systems work.

In Tampico, Mexico, I worked on the Shell PET plant that was under construction for a year. I was responsible for all instrument installation work, including basic instrument installations to a weigh scale truck-weighing system, as well as the safe installation of all instrument systems in the 13 story facility.

In Point Lisas, Trinidad, I was lead engineering department representative as project engineer, during the final construction and start-up of an ammonia unit, responsible for instrument installations as well as local panel design, emergency lighting facilities and flare stack controls, and all other design engineering decisions.

I would be pleased to take on the responsibility for the development of control systems design drawings for any type of refinery or chemical plant design.

Employment History:

April, 2014 to Sept. 2014 – ECI International, La Porte, Texas

Accepted a position as a Control Systems engineer, responsible for all control systems work and worked on the completion stages of the revamp of a polyethylene project in the area, checking the documents that were completed in the home office in Baton Rouge.

April 2011 to Sept. 2013 – Sacred Heart Catholic Church

ESL Instructor

I worked with a neighbor in giving the English language instruction and did the job for more than two years with weekly classes. Most of our students were Hispanic, but there was one lady from Bangladesh and one man from Pakistan. It was a most interesting job and it was too bad when the program was terminated, though we were confident that the students left classes with a better understanding of the English language.

Sept. 2007 to April, 2011 – Factory Mutual Approvals, Norwood, Mass.

Outside manufacturer auditor

I did contract auditing for manufacturing sites in the Houston area and in other Texas and Louisiana cities. The audits included every type of facility from valve manufacturers and roofing materials to fire hydrant manufacturing. It was a most interesting position. And gave me very good insights regarding manufacturing methodologies.

July 1999 to 2007 – Retired

During this period, I was employed as a “Guest Services Supervisor at Reliant Stadium, now called NRG, where I was responsible for, and directed, the Guest Services personnel in their roles to both direct people throughout the stadium, and to answer all inquiries, but I also managed to make sure there was a cooperative effort with the management of the stadium and the Texans football staff and the other visiting teams. It was an interesting role as a people manager.

July 1970 to July 1999 – Kellogg Brown and Root, Houston, Texas

A registered professional engineer, I was employed as a Control Systems Principal Design Engineer, and worked on a number of types of plants, including ammonia plants, refineries, ethylene plants, LNG receiving and liquefaction plants and catalytic cracking unit. I have been on field assignments in Texas City and Midland, Texas, Geismar and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, and also in the People’s Republic of China. I have been on overseas assignments in Cochin, India, in Jakarta, Indonesia, in Seoul, Korea, in Yokohama, Japan, in Cardon, Venezuela, in Tampico, Mexico, and Point Lisas, Trinidad. In Yokohama, I worked in the corporate offices of JGC, with other expats developing plans for the Malaysia LNG facility at Bintulu. My overseas duties also included the training of engineers and designers in the principles of Control Systems work.

January,1963 – July 1970 – Brown and Root Inc. Houston, Texas

I was employed as an Instrument Designer, responsible for design drawings for instrument installations, control systems, panel boards and logic systems. For the last three years of this period, I was the section Squad Leader and directed the work and training of designers on multiple diversified power plant projects.

January 1961 - January 1963 - United States Army

I spent most of my service time at Fort Wainwright, Alaska doing my job as an artillery surveyor in the 15th Artillery Battalion. I was honorably discharged in January of 1963 as a Specialist Four, a month after being honored as Battle Group Soldier of the Month in December 1962.

November 1958 - January 1961 - Brown and Root Inc., Houston, Texas

I was employed as an Instrument Designer in the Power Plant Design Group. My duties included the development of instrument detail drawings, panel board layouts and flow sheets for central power stations. I was the lone instrument designer in the power group at that time.
