Water Intake Risers (WIR)

Water intake riser assembly (WIR) is a unique concept where-in 8-42” risers hang off the keel of FLNG and through which 50,000m3/hour of sea water is pumped in from 150m below the mean sea level

These are held in position by a central 30” structural riser. The in place design / installation design and product qualification

Acting as the Shell Fabrication Construction Site Representative (CSR) based at the fabrication yard

Responsible for managing the water intake riser (WIR) fabrication / assembly including Construction safety, quality

The scope included managing several sub-sub contractors delivering several components. Some of the elements of the WIR, for e.g. Riser hanger assembly, VIV strakes shall be taken through qualification programs / rigorous testing prior to commencement of fabrication

Quality was vital, especially the dimensional tolerances of the WIR risers and special TSA coatings, to ensure 25 years uninterrupted service of the WIR assembly

Responsible to FLNG Engineering Manager for the delivery to specification and schedule of the FLNG WIR and its auxiliary systems

Worked close cooperation with the FLNG offshore hook-up team based in Perth, incorporating installation aids etc.

Responsible for managing the vendor product (RHA / VIV strakes / Hypochlorite injection system) prototype development, qualification testing, and upscale for manufacturing at Entrepose Industries

Project Assurance activities are undertaken in accordance with the Project Discipline Controls & Assurance Framework [DCAF]

The WIR system is a Novel concept being deployed for the first time on any floating system. Standard products are not available in the Industry

It was an honour to be part of this scope of work for Shell FLNG.
