REMARKS: I have an extensive background in sales, project management, and marketing. The background crosses various business sectors due to successive recessions. I work well directing a team or acting as a single unit. I enjoy most developing a territory or brand marketing. I like strong challenges, i.e. fundraising or international business. Born in Los Angeles. WASP (not Asian). The China experience is deep and business-related, connected with PhD work (December 2013), offering strong analytical skills.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

[Sales/Market Development]. Owner, Managing Partner, Sunlight Group. Newport Beach, Ca. We import office products, giftware and promotional products, selling direct to government agencies, schools, institutions, and businesses. Most products are unique and applied to fundraising use by schools, hospitals, etc. Major accounts include the Long Beach VA Medical Center, the California Paralyzed Veterans Association, and a prominent LA law firm. In 2010 we made a formal presentation to American Airlines (corporate, Ft. Worth) for in-flight merchandising valued at $47 million annual profit. In 2014 fundraising work and grant writing research on behalf of The Smile Train, a NYC-based non-profit. 2010- Present.

[Teaching]. Visiting Professor, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, PRC. Taught Management Economics, Entrepreneurship, and English conversation to graduate school students. Research project and research paper for the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009 on the recycling of electronic waste. Rated #1 visiting professor. [Note: USTC is considered China’s MIT.]. 2007-2009. This work was concurrent to doctoral studies, wherein specialty was business with China.

[Sales/Market Development]. Managing Partner, Off Shore Trading. An import company marketing and selling premium olive oil and balsamic vinegar to high-end grocery chains, natural food stores, and select restaurants. Principle accounts included Whole Foods Markets, Bristol Farms, Wild Oats. We introduced new products from Argentina and Italy where packaging presented a difficult problem, despite product superiority. We introduced rare* extra virgin olive oil protectively packaged in can in high-end stores where all others were in bottles. Packaging presented huge problem (also no spout). Creative marketing and sophisticated in-store taste presentations overcame consumer reluctance. Hired and trained twelve personnel for in-store presentation and instituted bonus program for high producers. 1993-2001.

[Project Management]. Senior Economic Attaché, Quebec Government Delegation, Los Angeles, California. A marketing and business development specialist (IT, Energy, furniture, sports fashion) responsible for assisting French Canadian firms establish themselves in the Western U.S. market region. Conducted market research, established contacts and initiated/led trade missions as well as planned/coordinated trade show participation in LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas. Arranged joint-venture partnership with Stanford University (educational s/w), a strategic sale to a U.S. national bookstore chain, and contracts with a Hollywood film studio (special effects s/w) for 3 Canadian IT firms. 1990-1992.

[Banking/Sales]. Business Development Manager. Crocker Bank, Newport Beach, Ca. Sold bank products, primarily lines of credit, secured and unsecured. Notable success: sold $500,000 of credit line during a single month, with recognition by the bank. [Note: I was part of a new bank program to train sales professionals to be bankers (class of 25 sales professionals). The program failed because, while we were given high sales number to reach monthly, the branch managers were reluctant to allow us to leave the bank to develop business. Almost all quit.].
