Stethoscopes Hygiene Program
August 2017 – Present
Designed, presented and implemented stethoscopes hygiene program in hospitals, across Najran, Province. There is enough evidence in literature to support the program but it was being neglected for many years. I produced evidence for its necessity and designed a program for effective disinfection of stethoscopes. I also designed methods to collect compliance data. Also, I’m in touch with different manufacturing companies for disinfection products and trying to get approval from Ministry of Health for their implementation. I have also designed a study protocol to determine contamination level of stethoscopes, efficacy of disinfection methods/products and 3
measure compliance of adherence my program, I’m under process for awaiting approval from IRB and grant agencies.
Foundation Course in Infection Prevention and Control July 2017 – Present
Designed and introduced Foundation course in Infection Prevention & Control in Najran Province, KSA. Course highlighted basics of Infection Prevention & Control including hand hygiene, PPE, isolation precautions, antibiotic resistance, sterilization/disinfection and hospital- acquired infection (HAI) and its surveillance methods. The course is being conducted over two weeks, beginning with 1 week of theoretical teachings via interactive videos, lectures, presentations, and readings, followed by 1 week of practical hands-on training and workshops at one the partner hospitals. The course has been made mandatory for all the health care workers including doctors and a certificate is provided at the completion of teachings/training and MCQ based passing examination. The course is receiving good feedback from its attendees and other authorities.
Cholera outbreak (Yemen) response and guidelines for containment and management of cases. May 2017 – Present
Conducted Cholera outbreak (ongoing in Yemen) assessment and prepared guidelines for its management and to stop its introduction in Najran, which is a Saudi Arabian border city, adjacent to Yemen. Many patients come to Najran for treatment and immigration due to ongoing civil unrest. Guidelines contained triaging, diagnosis, management, isolation, infection control measures etc. The project is still ongoing and there has been no positive case yet in the Najran region.
Conjunctivitis outbreak response and action plan for containment and management of cases. Mar 2017 – May 2017
Conducted conjunctivitis outbreak assessment for health care workers in one of the hospitals and prepared action plan for its management. The outbreak was contained and the project was successful.
