Bio Heather M. Kennedy, PA-C, MPAS
I am currently a Physician Assistant in the department of Orthopedics at UC Health in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am relocating to the San Francisco area late Spring to early Summer of 2018 and am looking for a new career opportunity in a fast-paced and growing market. My California license is pending approval with a June 1st date.
I have been a Physician Assistant for 20 years and have worked in Orthopedics for the last 16 years. My current position in Orthopedics focuses on Sports Medicine/Knee Reconstruction. I work with all the collegiate athletes at the University of Cincinnati and formerly worked with the Cincinnati Bengals professional football team for 12 years. I work with current and former fellowship programs from both Mercy and UC Hospitals, from interviewing prospective fellows through the training and evaluating process for ACGME accreditation. I developed and continue to run the high school athletic outreach program through the UC Sports Medicine Division, actively participating in contract negotiations with HS leadership and organizing physician coverage/physicals for up to 27 high schools at its peak.
I sat on the design committee for several office spaces as well as with the leader council on the Holmes Hospital steering committee. I created all the post-operative protocols for physical therapy for the major surgical procedures performed with my current physician care team, set up the order sets and templates in the EPIC EMR system, set up anesthesia protocols for pre-op and post-op care. I created all the lead physician’s presentations that were presented nationally, regionally and locally. I currently see all patients’ pre-op in SDS, prep patients for surgery in the OR, first assist in surgery including wound closure and preparing all grafts, do the op note and talk to the families post-operatively. I see the patients for 90% of the post-operative care, do all viscosupplementation injections and see an evaluate new patients and new problems as well
I am an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Ohio Association of Physician Assistants, and the Physician Assistants Orthopedic Society. I am currently licensed in both Ohio and Kentucky. I am active as both a mentor to pre-Physician Assistant students as well as an Orthopedic preceptor for numerous Physician Assistant programs. I have precepted for Nurse Practitioner programs as well. While at UC Health I have mentored several Orthopedic Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioner.
I have co-authored one book chapter. I have been involved as a sub-investigator or lead investigator on over 35 clinical trials and have co-authored several published peer reviewed articles.
I earned her Bachelor of Health Sciences/Physician Assistant Studies from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and my Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.
I offer passion, enthusiasm, and a solid knowledge base. I am a leader who is a calm effective communicator. I deal well in stressful situations. I will be an asset to any team.
