QC for the project

As a part of the WellPoint Account team, I was involved in the maintaining and improving the WellPoint university repository.

Description :

ESI have offered retail discounts greater than NextRx's current terms. ESI, through their higher discounts with the retail pharmacies than the terms being offered to WellPoint, will capture margin from our retail prescription volume. In order to realize the benefit of the buyer's improved retail pharmacy discounts, while our members are still on the NextRx adjudication systems prior to migration, ESI's pharmacy rates must be loaded into the NextRx's systems. NextRx's adjudication systems do not have the ability to differentiate the terms paid to the retail pharmacy from those billed to the health plan. As a result, loading the buyer's pharmacy rates into the NextRx's system would result in discounts to WellPoint that are greater than the contract terms; this alters the intended economics of the arrangement, as the buyer is unable to capture the retail margin.

QC for the project

The Project :

The Project involves a series of phases enabling Well Point to migrate existing clients in the Well Point Claims Processing System (ProServ) to Anthem Prescription Management Claims Processing System (ProPBM) and implementation of New Clients in the ProPBM. This involves the migration of Prior Authorization data, Historical Claims data, Group/Member Eligibility data etc. The ProServ system manages its client data in IMS DB & small part in DB2 and the ProPBM stores data in Oracle database for different clients. The project also incorporates new clients into the Anthem’s finance processing.

Since ProPBM uses Oracle DB, Informatica serves as an Interface between DB and Mainframes.

Empire (Well Choice) is one of the health care companies in the U.S. They were one of the competitors of WellPoint. Empire was a standalone company operating at New York, Kentucky. Empire was providing services only for its medical claims and its pharmacy related claims were taken by Caremark.

In the year 2006 WellPoint acquired Empire. As a result of merging with the NextRx, the empire decided to use the NextRx PBM for its pharmacy claims processing instead of Caremark. Hence all the members would be migrated from Caremark PBM system to NextRX PBM system. Therefore starting from 1-1-2009 implementation, all the members of empire will use NextRx as their PBM.

In the WellChoice, we would be checking whether the current system is capable of implementing one million members and if it’s not capable, the system is stabilized accordingly.
