Systems Architect III, Chicago Bridge and Iron Woodlands, Texas October 2014 to September 2017

Perform AIX systems support of AIX TSM environments in addition to storage systems support of IBM, EMC, NetApp, and Compellent systems. Responsible for design, specification, and implementation of storage and storage systems for various physical and VMware development, test, and production systems environments. Other duties also include:

Implement, upgrade and maintain the physical fiber plant in the Woodlands, Baton Rouge, and Plainfield data centers.

Install, maintain and update AIX environments for the various TSM servers at all locations as well as assisting in the day to day TSM checks and tasks through command line and Ops Center.

Troubleshoot and repair TSM storage, tape drive and IBM library issues

Setup, maintain and utilize the AIX NIM environment for patch deployment, mksysb backups, and partition maintenance.

Perform as an AIX Systems Engineer in support of Memorial Hermann's AIX computing environment. Responsible for design, specification, and implementation of development, test, and production systems environment for the various aspects of the hospital departments. Other duties also include:

Planning, designing, documenting, building, and deploying AIX 5, 6, and 7, P5, P6 and Power7, 550, 570, 595, 740, 720, and PureFlex servers, and SAN with V7000 storage systems.

VannCom, Inc., Senior Unix/Netware Systems Engineer, Houston, Texas 1997 to 1998

Designed, Implemented and Supported customer's networks, UNIX, NT, Netware, AS400, servers, routers and firewalls, email and Internet connectivity that resulted in higher customer satisfaction and several client referrals. Ran CAT5 compliant cables, patch panels, and outlets that resulted in the customer being able to use at that time or migrate to the faster 100 Mbit Ethernet network protocol. Trouble shot issues in the user’s desktop environment that resulted in a stable workstation and a 25% increase in productivity.

Hermann Hospital, Senior Network Analyst, Houston, Texas 1991 to 1997

Designed, implemented and supported the networking LAN/WAN infrastructure of the hospital that resulted in a stable yet robust infrastructure with a reliable methodology for sharing information. Implemented networks, managed switches, routers, Netware and AIX RS/6000 Unix servers and network storage devices that allowed the safe and reliable retrieval and storage of the critical data. Maintained the TCP/IP address assignments and DNS configuration as well as the various NFS, LU 6.2 and other types of mainframe interfaces that resulted in the efficient address resolution and data communication between the various computing systems. Interfaced with the Directors and Managers of departments insuring their computing needs were addressed in a timely and orderly fashion without impacting systems used for patient care, resulting in the increased confidence in the Information Systems as well as a more consolidated and secure computing environment with savings of at least two additional employee positions.

Novell Server Migration Project

Upgraded 8 Netware 3.x servers to 4.11 which resulted in a more stable operating system and allowed for the consolidation of fifteen smaller departmental servers to two large servers with RAID 5 arrays. Designed, Setup and managed the NDS tree structure and login scripts which allowed the hospital to correctly assign the proper rights and access to the needed information while safeguarding the sensitive information. Created and managed the queues and print servers associated with each department.

Pharmacy Project

Migrated from a Novell based Pharmacy patient billing system to a RS/6000 AIX based application that resulted in a 53% increase in uptime and process efficiency. Installed and configured PC Workstations in each of the Intensive Care Units for prescription order and dispensing tracking that resulted in being able to reduce the need for one position in each of the Care Unit pharmacies. Customized the AIX environment automating several of the routine tasks such as user management and system backups that resulted in the managers being able to handle many of the users needs without having to involve support. Created a customized backup schedule of twice per 24 hours and created scripts to logout all users and close all open files insuring a valid backup which resulted in the successful recovery of the billing data on two separate occasions, saving the hospital approximately $600,000 each time. Configured the AIX operating system and Universe database system for integration with a robotic prescription dispensing that allowed the hospital to service 20 more pharmacy offices as well as reduce dispensing errors by 65%. Performed support on the various Pharmacy equipment that saved the department $35,000 during the one year project.

Medical Record Imaging Project

Liaison between the project management company and the Medical Records Department resulting in the hospital being able to store the required patient records in a digital format that was readily retrievable anywhere in the hospital that the Doctors needed the information. Maintained the interface between the Sybase application and the optical disk storage unit that resulted in the successful implementation of the project, saving the hospital approximately $15,000 annually in paper storage costs.
