Research Scientist/Project Manager for QA/QC – Molecular Biologist (2008 to 2016)

Selected to serve in a team of 4 scientists to develop, implement and monitor analytical methods for global Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) labs in the production technology sector of Monsanto. Duties included global continuous improvement projects, assay development, method development and training, validation, proficiency testing, and other tasks. Agility was key in this role as priorities constantly changed.

Developed, validated, implemented and maintained high-throughput analytical methods globally, determining genetic purity in Agricultural (AG) products.

Led trait purity by DNA platform assay development and implementation, saving $1.1M annually by utilizing this combinational testing strategy.

Coordinated global validation and proficiency testing (PT) programs, including (USDA, GIPSA, ISTA and internal PTs) for QA/QC labs. Developed program that granted labs’ data international acceptance through ISO 17025 accreditation, ISTA and USDA.

Cross-trained and audited the Seed/Protein Analytics HPLC group in Monsanto Regulatory.

Established certified reference material qualifications and library, providing qualified material to Monsanto’s 9 QA/QC labs, regulatory science and any 3rd-party request for material.

Provided oversight and troubleshooting for any assay issues that arose for implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), minimizing downtime in high-throughput labs.

Contributed to Monsanto emergency response team, handling news headline type emergencies. One example of this team’s function was averting USDA shutdown of wheat export from US graineries in 2016. This may have saved Monsanto $40M/day in liability, pending litigation.
