2014 -present Assistant Professor, McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA, USA

Activities:

Lead the design and implementation activities of a campus Microgrid (MG) at the McNeese State University.

Closely work with industry partner ABB Inc. and local petro-chemical industries.

Prepare proposal, purchase equipment and project management as customer representative.

Implement distributed control strategy for MG: condition monitoring using smart wireless technology, protection of loads using IED etc.

Simulating the effect of STATCOM on relay operation at MG platform.

Achievement:

The MG is functional and is used as a training tool

Industry partner ABB Inc. show case this MG to their customer as a platform where they use multiple new smart grid technology:

Generate 4 scientific publications/presentation.

Activities: Consulting service to the collaborator’s company Kylowave Inc., Ottawa, Canada: Provide PCB fabrication techniques for BLDC motor controller

Design high current power electronic invertor circuits to drive BLDC motor drive,

Design and fabrication of switch mode power supply: including switching speed and ESD consideration.

Achievement:

Upgrade their existing motor controller and use that in multiple laboratory.

Complete two senior design project and one master’s thesis

Activities:

Design a fault tolerant multi-phase BLDC motors and their drive using Ansys simulator.

Design an efficient pumping system for petro chemical processing system and their control.

Develop Optimum power flow using unified power flow controller (UPFC), distributed power flow controller by using FACTS devices.

Design five level inverter for renewable energy system and integrate into the MG.

Develop Power management strategy for grid connected renewable system.

Achievement:

Fully functional pumping system for different fluids used in chemical processes

Designed high-speed motor was fabricated and tested for one NASA subsidiary company and report was submitted with positive scientific outcome.
