SOSI Co. - Immigration Court Interpreter

Interpret Master Calendar Hearings and Individual Merits Hearing for the Department of Justice Immigration Courts in Houston, Texas and out of state courts in emergency cases. Interpretation is done symultaneos, consecutive and sight. Spanish to English and English to Spanish.

Bilingual Forensic Evaluation Clinician – The Children’s Assessment Center – CAC

Conduct systematic bilingual evaluations of children at the request of legal authorities for the explicit purpose of gathering forensically sound information as part of child sexual abuse investigations to assist decision-making or legal proceedings; gather information regarding social, developmental, emotional, and behavioral functioning as well as abuse related information; collaborate with multi-disciplinary investigative team including law enforcement, medical personnel, CPS, County and District Attorney’s Offices to provide comprehensive findings and service recommendations; attend professional trainings, consultations, and weekly clinical supervision to ensure best practice; document sessions and provide written reports, court testimony and community trainings; assessments in English/Spanish; assist in implementing animal-assisted program in the forensic services division. This position required interpretation from English to Spanish in the criminal and family courts. Depositions were interpreted when needed. Represented at court as Expert Witness in Child Sexual abuse.

May 2010 -June 2015.

Case Manager - The Children’s Center Inc. - Division of ORR - Contract -

Case manager for international foster children that are in the country awaiting for a Juvenile Visa that will be given by The Homeland Security Department. In charge of doing assessment to new foster families and for the placement of the foster children. Link between the Office of Refugee and Resettlement, foster children, Attorneys and Deportation Officers. Training to foster parents about child development and culture sensitivity. Interpretation was provided to foster parents and children. Translation of documents was provided when children attended court hearings.

Parent Educator - ESCAPE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER -

Lead Educator for parenting classes. (How to discipline, Early signs of sexual or physical Abuse, Family and Divorce. In charge of all the children educators and the facilitation of the course which can be from 2 to 7 weeks. Facilitator for the Exceptional Parenting class, which is a class for parents with children with disabilities. Facilitator of Cablispanian, (How to raise children in a double culture environment. Facilitator for the class "Circle of Love" (Education for surrogate parents, grandparents and guardians). Educator in the main center, school districts, community centers and Head Start locations.

May 2005 - May 2008

Educator - WEST OAKS HOSPITAL -

Educator for Spanish Speaking Children. Duties include: caseworker, interpreter for the psychological testing, advocate for needed services, link between hospital, field coordinators, treatment team and caseworkers. In charge for all their personal needs I.e. clothing, phone calls and communication between their families and future placements.

In Home Trainer - Harris County Department of Education -

Train parents with children in the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Teaching them life skills and help them live a normal life. Educate parents on their issues and help them cope with living with a disability at home. Caseworker for the assigned caseload of 10 Autistic Children.

Evaluator - University of Texas -

Provide different type of batteries for children three to five years old. PLS-4, OEWPVT, Preschool comprehensive Test of Phonological and Print Processing Awareness and Blending, Developing Skills Checklist - Auditory Subscale DSC. Train teachers of different school districts to be able to look for signs of learning disabilities, specially in Reading.

Interpreter - Masterword Services, Inc.

Interpreter for different private companies, in the medical, social psychological fields. Some of the companies are CPS providing interpretation for home visits, investigations, forensic interviews and assessments. Interpretation is done from English to Spanish and vice versa. Interpreter for assessments at foster homes. Certified Medical Interpreter-Translator by Masterword. Written translations in Medical, Oil, Psychiatric and Psychological fields. (Experience in medical field in Hermann Hospital, MD Anderson, Baylor College of Medicine, Memorial Hermann Southwest and Texas Children’s Sugar Land

Reading Specialist - Dyslexia Specialist in Training

Trained by the Neuhaus Education Center to be a Dyslexia Specialist. Provide therapy to children that either have been diagnosed or are only showing a delay in reading. I am still working to get my license by the State of Texas at the end of my 700 hours of practicum. I have provided therapy privately and at the school district.

Training Coordinator - Early Childhood Intervention of MHMRA of Harris County

As a trainer Coordinator my duties were: Schedule Pre-Service Training for new staff. Schedule CPR and First Aid Trainings for staff hired by ECI and Harris County Department of Education. Schedule Mandatory trainings for the entire program. Maintain current credentials status for Service Coordinators required by Medicaid. Maintain all required immunizations for staff and schedule their appointments. Maintain a current roster for all employees. Follow up with the training needs assessments for all employees. Develop new trainings for staff and keep up with all required changes by ECI and MHMRA laws. Provide complete Pre-Service training to all new employees hired by MHMRA and Harris County Department of Education. Train new employees on Child Development and Milestones on normal developed children.

Early Intervention Specialist - Early Childhood Intervention of MHMRA of Harris County

As an Early Intervention Specialist part of my duties included to work as part of the Interdisciplinary Team that provided assessment to children with developmental delays, medical diagnosis or atypical diagnosis. I provided Developmental Service to children that were eligible to our program due to any disability. Caseworker for a caseload of 25 to 40 children.

All duties were performed in English and Spanish

Mentor - Early Childhood Intervention of MHMRA

As a mentor for ECI I had a caseload of Mentees assigned for which I needed to monitor their job and skills as Early Intervention Specialists in Entry Level. In charge of signing off their competency demostration system notebook in order for them to get their Certification as Early Intervention Specialists. Train new child development specialist in their role as a home trainer for parents.
