Process Automation - Flat Rolling Section,

Process Control Engineer 1996-2005

Activities included technical writing, project definition and scope generation, process line troubleshooting and maintenance (PLCs and DEC VAX), participating on department safety committee, maintenance of three contracts for plant-wide UPS and battery maintenance, liaison between home department and assigned production department, HTML development and level II software development on DEC VAX.

Designed and Implemented software diagnostic tool to graph process control variables for a tandem mill to reduce troubleshooting time. Code was in fortran using FMS (Forms Management System) on VAX VMS platform. Training class was developed and presented to maintenance and operating personnel.

Software development was in fortran on DEC VAX VMS platform. Tasks included modifying turn and daily reports as requested, troubleshooting code problems as reported, tailoring fortran code for interface to new shape system computer, and monitoring system performance. CPU was upgraded and the appropriate license changes were completed.

Reduced cost of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) preventative maintenance and emergency repair contracts by nearly 10%.

Successfully led team of colleagues in task to assemble all data related to a 1965 vintage computer for an upcoming upgrade.

Activities included scope, design, and implement projects, such as design and installation of hole detector for detecting welds marked by holes, as requested by the operating and maintenance departments utilizing plant personnel or contractors when necessary. Programming was performed on Allen Bradley PLC and GE Series Six platforms.

Designed and Implemented a hole detector for a line that ran 1500fpm. Software ran on AB PLC5. Unit was in service for ten years with minimal maintenance.

Organized and lead the day turn group of electricians and engineers during check out of cables following a fire in a cable tunnel.
