Project Engineer (New Product Engineering)/Tooling Engineer

Lear Corporation/United Technologies Automotive, Iowa City, IA 1996 to 2000

*OEM tier one supplier in the automotive interior industry. Manufacture instrument panels, injection molded and foam in place. (RIM) Also manufactured other interior hard and soft trim components. Processes inside plant include injection molding, rotocast, slush, soft foam polyurethane, soft-touch painting, nickel electoforming. Also PVC, plastisol and slush compounding along with welding operations.

Basic Job Functions: Responsible for the initiation of all requests for tool design and construction, break in of tools for production use, sample and prototype work, and tool improvement programs after production start up. Responsible for cost control and budgets for projects assigned.

Other Accomplishments: included acting as Program Manager for transfers of programs under launch to the Iowa City Plant from our sister plants. Transfers completed successfully. Launched new program for 1999, 2000 and 2001 model years. With the current program having a multi-million capital and tooling budget. This program was successfully launched on schedule and within budget while maintaining all cost and quality targets.

Manufacturing Engineer

Toyota Gossei (U.S.A.) Corporation, Perryville, MO 1994-1996

*OEM supplier to the automotive industry. Manufacturing processes included RIM(Reaction Injection Molding), injection molding, extrusion, aluminum and magnesium die casting, air bag assembly and testing, hand and robot painting, blow molding and rotary, sandwich and co-injection molding.

Main Responsibilities: included managing the launching of new injection tooling during pre-production stages of new programs. Responsible for launching over 50 injection tools during launch mode.

Other Responsibilities: involvement in plantwide continuous improvement activities.

TPS(Toyota Production System) focused activities (team leader for improvement activities.)

TPM(Total Productive Maintenance) focused activities (served as engineering advisor)

Quality Engineer, United Engineering, Imperial, MO 1993-1994

*Supplied key components to major aerospace companies. Products produced included wing and engine assemblies for large commercial airliners (Boeing 727, 737 and 777).
