AP1000 China Distributed Control & Information Systems (DCIS) Product Manager 2013 - 2018

Led the development of the AP1000 product growth strategy and managed the daily activities of the development/execution team (17 direct reports) for Westinghouse’s AP1000 New Plant market in China:

Developed and was responsible for maintaining the AP1000 DCIS product strategies for the China market

Established the process for the successful knowledge transfer of DCIS methodologies and software from the U.S. designers to WEC China staff to allow for localization of the product in the target market

Resolved product schedule delays and corresponding $5M overspend in first fourteen months on the job by using CI tools, such as process mapping, to eliminate said delays and improve the delivery schedule by two months, eliminate the overspend and generate a positive cost variance of $1.3M

Led the development of AP1000 DCIS project bids and project plans for both the U.S. and China offices’ work scope

Mentored and coached the work force who was responsible for the development and delivery of the DCIS product

Reduced the retention of redundant files and their storage – Capital savings of $3M with a cost avoidance of another $1M. Additional benefit of the project was the reclamation of space meant for storage for productive use

Reduced the Handling, Inventory and Waiting wastes at a fuel facility, which resulted in a $10K/month savings in labor costs

Increased the productivity of cross functional engineering teams by removing unnecessary steps in existing processes, while increasing the rigor and synergy at hold/transfer points in said processes for field operations

AP1000 Safety System Functional Engineer 2005 - 2006

Developed initial AP1000 safety system functional logic diagrams and functional specifications for critical safety actuations. Trained and mentored new hire college graduates on automation system principals, methodologies and other industry standards.

VEC TECHNOLOGY, LLC, Greenville, PA 2004 - 2005

Automation Systems Manager

Provided technical direction and led the daily activities of the Controls Team (three members) for an OEM of Closed Molding Composites Equipment (VEC Cell) at its Regional Manufacturing/Research Center:

Led technical development and implementation of a configurable automation package for the VEC Cell, which resulted in a 55% reduction ($200K vs. $450K) in capital equipment and implementation costs, while increasing machine availability and part changeover flexibility

Developed modular control code and graphics which reduced the design, configuration and commissioning time for a VEC Cell by roughly 50%, which allowed my staff to bring more equipment to market sooner at a reduced cost

Led completion of Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and remediation of any failures found for final customer configurations of a VEC Cell

Developed or assisted in the development of technical specifications to better explain the operational capabilities and maintenance of the configurable assemblies of a VEC Cell

PARTNER’S ALLIANCE, Cranberry, PA 2003 - 2004

Project Management Consultant

Responsible for the business development, conceptual design and management of capital equipment projects for AK Steel’s Butler PA Hot Mill:

Assisted Hot Mill Operations by identifying key equipment/process deficiencies, then developed both the best technical solutions to rectify these deficiencies and the necessary business justifications to secure the capital to resolve them

Responsible for all facets of projects with fiscal and progress reporting to rank and file up to plant management

Assembled and directed multi-discipline teams ranging from Installation to R&D personnel

Project budgets ranged from $25K (Slab Underside Temperature Monitoring) to $535K (Crop Shear Optimization) with lifecycles from two to eight months

All projects were completed under budget, within the allotted time and exceeded the initial business justifications. The Crop Shear Optimization project met its targeted ROI in just over four months instead of the projected eleven and was completed for $100K under budget while adding system functionality that was not envisioned when the project was proposed

ALSTOM POWER CONVERSION, Pittsburgh, PA 2000 - 2002

Managed the technical and commercial content of Drives/Automation projects, ($6 to $30 Million), in the Steel and Fossil Power Generation Industries:

Increased Gross Margin on a Cold Mill automation project from 18% to 35% by implementing a flexible

engineering model and improving the technical information transfer between the office and site engineers

Increased gross margin by 3% on a Force Draft Fan Project by implementing a real time manpower-tracking tool, to effectively manage engineering resources and other project tasks

Interfaced extensively with clients and technical partners to ensure critical issues and concerns were quickly resolved. This enabled Alstom to consistently exceed the client’s expectations and thereby provided opportunities for repeat business as well as additional work within the existing contracts

Principal liaison between Sales and Engineering Departments during a project’s proposal stage, which led to the setting of attainable project deliverables and manpower budgets
