MEP Projects Manager

MEP Projects Manager controling all MEP aspects for five live DBS projects in Nigeria one of which was a high value project that comprised of three levels of shopping malls with a hotel c/w leisure complex above totalling around 30,000sqm.

My role is to work with the LN’s, instruct and oversee all MEP works carried out by DBS and subcontractors, to ensure they come in within budget and on or ahead of time conforming to British Standards and are to the highest quality.

Self Employed Construction/ MEP Projects Manager. UK

I came to the UK October 2013 to bring and settle my family who had previously lived in Tajikistan, I have worked on various private construction projects around the UK in a MEP Manager role.

November 1st 2012 – October 15th 2013: Self Employed Project Manager, Dushanbe Tajikistan.

Employed as project manager at a new private four story dwelling located in Dushanbe.

Overseeing and directing all works. Instructing the local workforce in EHS and making sure that all members of the construction team where working to British/European standards. Working with very high specification materials I ensured that correct installation methods where adhered too.

July 1st 2011-October 31st 2012: M+W Group, Afghanistan.

Employed as: MEP/Construction Manager with Security LNO Duties, M+W Group (Afghanistan Division.)

As a newly set up division of M+W Group in Afghanistan my contact details were sent through by the FCO, they suggested that I be contacted as M+W had gained the contract for the Canadian Embassy Kabul Chancery/Embassy and Dining Hall facilities and Force Protection phases, One of my main duties was to take charge of all of the QC side of the project and to ensure that all of the work carried out was delivered at the highest standard .

As MEP/Construction Manager i worked closely with the FCO Clerk of Works, the project involved taking over works that had been started by another company who had failed to achieve targets and standards set by the client, I had to turn around the Dining Hall phase of the project and bring it in before the 15th December as instructed by the client, all works were carried out under very difficult conditions but it was achieved to a very high standard.

I was also responsible for controlling the day to day activities of all Ex-pats, TCN’s and LN’s installing the new AHU systems, Duct Works, Mechanical/Service Rooms, fitting out of Kitchens, Fire Suppression System.

Due to the very high standard of works carried out at the Canadian Embassy Kabul, M+W have now signed further multimillion dollar contracts with the Canadian Government stretching through until 2016.

Due to my position and experience I was also tasked to take on the role of Security Liaison Officer for the company here in Afghanistan.

August 12th 2010 – 1st June 2011, Associates in Development (AID), Afghanistan.

Based in Helmand Province as PM for multimillion dollar ANCOPS Brigade HQ site build, Site of approximately 200,000m sq containing all facilities for a stand- alone base to accommodate 2500 personnel, complete ground works, utilities and building fabric.

January 2010 through to July 2010 Senior Projects Engineer on the 65 Million +(Usd) Al-Rasheed Hotel Refurbishment project within the International Zone, Baghdad, Iraq.

Main duties overseeing the installation of communications, fire, Cctv systems, I was also responsible for the co-ordination of the QA/QC, commissioning/ testing stages of the project.

The in country Senior Project Engineer (Hands On) for a £5 + million construction project in Basra contracted to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Controlling the day to day project management of the entire electrical/communication and finishing works for the client utilising the effective control of ex-patriot and locally employed skilled electricians and air conditioning technicians and to make sure that all installations were of the highest quality.

Integrated Logistic Support management, ensuring all local procurement and overseas orders are effectively managed to provide the work force with the correct materiel to support the needs of the project.

Troubleshooting the electrical works part of the project, bringing it back in line with the client’s needs by utilising the transferable management, project and human resource skills developed throughout a professional career.

Following on from the above position I was promoted to Senior Projects Engineer in December 2010, I became the Operations Manager for Basra and Southern Iraq June 2010.

August 2007-May 2008 Otis Lifts

Employed as: Senior Lift Engineer

Installing 4 Otis GEN 2000 passenger/goods lifts at the new university campus in Leeds. The lifts were installed over 35 floors.

I was involved in all stages of the installation; all work was carried out over or exceeding the company guidelines and working to very high Health and Safety standards.

After my contract finished at the British Embassy I started working for the NGO Habitat for Humanity (Central Asia), my work included overseeing and assisting in the construction of 2 room dwellings and emergency shelters for the Tajik disaster program.

I also worked on private construction projects working with the local work force I would instruct them in all aspects of Health and Safety at Work.

I carried out document editing services for various NGO’s based in the capital Dushanbe.

I also had a small business which supplied personal security equipment to the NGO’S and Government agencies.

As part of a small team, we construct the secure areas within British Embassy, I was involved with all aspects of the work i.e. electrical, plumbing, concrete work, and air handling in fact all first and second fix work, also responsible for overseeing and instructing the local workforce, It was also part of my job to make the takeoffs from all electrical drawings.

I went to work on the ambassadors new residence, my duties included working with the local tradesmen on all electrical installations.

My work involved installing passenger and goods lifts, the work was under taken for the Otis Lift Company, this was a multi-million pound Skanska contract, I would be responsible for overseeing the delivery, and installing the equipment working within strict health and safety/company guidelines, testing and handing over of the equipment to the customer.

As tour manager I worked with a ten piece band (Pato Banton and The Reggae Revolution) we traveled to most countries around the world and performed at major venues such as Sydney Opera House, Santa Barbara Bowl, Golden Gate Park, I also worked with other top artists though my connection with Peter Gabriel’s Co (WOMAD) World of Music Art and Dance. I would also be responsible for all stage erection safety and electrical tests.

Initially I attended a 14 week management training course, this covered all aspects of house management, and I successfully passed all exams. I became a relief manager covering licensed houses in the city and surrounding areas. I was responsible for moving into the premises and ensuring the smooth day to day operation of business, this included duties from opening early to take deliveries, checking and ordering stock, organizing stock rotation, check takings, bank monies and supervision of the staff training. I supervised the bar during the course of the day and ensured all company procedures were carried out until the close of business.

As a recruit I trained in all military skills and then as a technical store man, this entailed issuing and ordering store items and maintaining all associated paperwork, I then moved over to the MT section, I then became regimental driver, I was responsible for transporting the Colonel and other V.I.P’s. also the designated driver for the” Master of Signals” when he visited- HQ, Wales & Western District. Through promotion I went onto join the Regimental Recruit Training Team (RRTT) as an instructor, as part of the team I trained new recruits in military skills, specializing in weapons, drill, and nuclear/biological/chemical warfare.

On leaving RRTT I was to work with the 23rd Regt Special Air Service, this involved many various tasks, and I was involved in the Multi-National Special Forces exercises in a support role. We would give full logistical support.
