Pharmacy Prior Authorization Specialist: In partnership with Pharmacy Clinical Manager for Oncology, developed Pharmacy Prior Authorization Pilot Program from scratch to integrate into UNC’s larger Medication Assistance Program. Researched patients’ insurance benefits, CMS guidelines, and medical policies of specific insurers. Coordinated the medication prior authorization and appeals processes for infusion and oral therapies. Worked with providers, insurance companies, and other members of the health care team to obtain payment for both physician- and patient-administered medications. Facilitated access to prescribed medications by making referrals to appropriate patient assistance programs. Maintained database of all patients served by the program and of associated cost avoidance and reimbursement in Excel. Trained three new employees once the program expanded beyond pilot status.
