Transferred from the Indian Health Service to this VA hospital Northern Illinois. The only VA hospital in the country that see both veteran and enlisted personal due to the nearby naval base. Worked as a Medical Technologist in all areas of the clinical laboratory, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood bank and urinalysis in this highly automated laboratory.

NAVAJO MEDICAL CENTER, SHIPROCK, NEW MEXICO (12-15-12 TO 12-15-16)

Worked as a Medical Technologist in all areas of the clinical laboratory, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood bank and urinalysis. Responsibilities include the processing of clinical sample in a timely manner and meeting all quality control and equipment maintenance requirements as a solo night tech.

WAYNE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, WAYNE, MICHIGAN (9/08 TO 1/2012)

Primary responsibility as Laboratory Supervisor is to assure that all clinical testing by staff at ten separate sites is performed correctly and according to procedure with the proper documenting of results and quality assurance activities. Act as liaison with state officials and other regulatory agencies to demonstrate that quality assurance is being met by submitting monthly reports with the original documents from each site. Maintain complete files of these records on site for annual site visit reviews from state officials. Developed and managed a lead testing program for young children that we see through the nutritional counseling program for young families.

AMERICAN RED CROSS TESTING LABORATORY, DETROIT, MICHIGAN (2/06 to 10/06)

Temporary placement as a Medical Technologist in the Nucleic Acid Testing lab. The six hour long assay is designed to detect the presence of viral nucleic acids in donor samples from HIV, hepatitis, and West Nile Virus. This testing is done to assure that the blood is safe for transfusions. The blood and blood products processed by this institution are FDA regulated and require GMP guidelines which include the extensive documentation of all procedures performed.

WARDE MEDICAL LABORATORY, ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN (2/05 to 10/05)

Employed as a Medical Technologist in the Flow Cytometry Department of this specialized reference laboratory. Prepared blood, bone marrow and tissue samples for immunostaining and analysis by isolating the white blood cells with density gradient centrifugation. Also performed lymphocyte genotyping of blood samples that identifies and quantities the subpopulations (CD3/CD4) of lymphocytes which is used to monitor the antiviral treatment of AIDS patients. Conducted Western blot confirmations of positive HIV antibody screening tests.

MERCY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, MONROE, MICHIGAN (2/04 to 2/05)

Employed as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician in the clinical laboratory of this medium sized community hospital. Conducted testing and analysis of samples in five different sections of the laboratory, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis and Blood Bank. Was responsible for daily maintenance of the automated equipment and quality control of the various assays. All resulting conducted and reported through the laboratory information software (Cerner).

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN (11/94 TO 5/03)

Employed as a Research Assistant, Research Associate on various grant-funded projects investigating certain aspects of a particular medical disorder. Conducted a multitude of biochemical assays including a full spectrum of molecular biology techniques, which included PCR, RT-PCR, southern, northern and western analysis. Experimental samples of DNA, RNA and protein were extracted from cells grown in culture or specific tissues from human or animal subjects. Involved in several advanced cell culture projects, which required extensive cell culture skills. Also performed laboratory animal experiments, which included genotyping of the animal colony, dosing animals with various compounds and in vivo testing. Administrative duties included inventory and purchasing of all laboratory supplies, training of new personal and meeting all safety requirements.
