Dear Sir/Madam

My name is Gary J. Harris and I am applying for employment as a Civil/Structural Engineer.

I have extensive experience in Structural Design/Analysis of Structural steel (including light gauge and "cold" steel), Reinforced Concrete Structures, and Timber Structures and I possess a BS (1975) and an MS (1976) from the University of California at Berkeley. I am a Registered Civil-Engineer in California (# C 30477), Washington

(# 31637), Arizona (30681),Texas (82882), Michigan Professional Engineer # 48245, Nebraska # E-10317, Mississippi # 18638, Alabama 29669-E, Pennsylvania PE077960, Nevada PE - 021107 Oklahoma PE 25129 and North Carolina PE - 044025. I have also used Autocad 2007 for constructions documents layouts and sections.

My experience is in Steel Frame including Heavy Machinery and Concrete Design including Foundation Design and modifications of Industrial and Commercial Buildings/Structures, Pipe supports, Material Handling (Conveyors), Petroleum Storage Tanks, Power Plants, Marine Transfer Towers, Airplane Hangers, Aircraft Loading Docks and tools and their structural supports. I managed several projects including cost-control, client contact and delegation of responsibility.

In my current with CG Power Solutions USA Inc., I am Engineer of Record for Frisco, Texas and Borders, Oklahoma Sub-Stations. My involved all Civil Engineering Compliance for both Sub-Structure and Super-Structures. This involved A-Frames, Lightning Masts, Foundations (including Drilled Shafts and Spread Mat Foundations). My work involved RISA Modeling, Excel and Mathcad Calculations, Drawing Stamping and Document Preparation.

When I was with BEK/KBR in Houston, Texas, I was responsible for the Seismic Analysis of the Cooper River, South Carolina Pipeway for DuPont. This facility was built directly over an existing Earthquake Fault Line. I modeled the complex with STAADPRO and design all Piles and Steel Structures. My work involved I directed all aspects of the Civil/Structural Portions of the project. This involved directed the designers, young engineers, interfacing with the Project Manager and other disciplines.

In my previous work with Precision Systems Engineering, I have been responsible for the Holcim, Devils Slide Utah Trolley Crane Design and Holcim Slag Shelter. The work involved design of Cranes, Foundations, Frames and Staadpro modeling.

In my previous work with Utility Engineering, I was responsible for the structural design study of the OPPD SARPY Exhaust System Failure. This included field investigation and Structural Analysis with STAADPRO. I was also responsible for the design of the piping systems and foundation design for the Cliff’s Washington and Sugar Creek, Indiana Combined Cycle Power Plant.

In my former work with Hatch Associates, I was responsible for the Non-Contact Cooling Tower Basin-Foundation for the Chaparral Virginia Steel Plant. This was a large reinforced concrete walled structure with very long concrete beam-columns spaced at intervals. Loadings on the tank were Thermal, Soil, Live and Wind Loading.

I was also responsible for the design of 41 foot deep Scale Pit Substructure. This structure was well below the ground water table with a large uplift and lateral pressure on the structure.

In my previous work at Hatch Associates, I was responsible for the structural design of the Dross Building Upgrade of the LEAD SIP for the ASARCO, East Helena Lead Plant. The work involved designing large duct supports, pipe supports and support for new 25-Ton Rotary Melters. Large Caissons were required and much coordination with the mechanical engineers in the support design. This includes STAAD III Modeling interfacing with the Piping and Mechanical Engineers and General Structural Layout. I have also been responsible for the Ahlstrom Hopper Upgrade at Cyrpus Miami, Arizona Smelter. This includes the conversion of braced frames into a rigid frame for a loader access and design of a bunker below the hopper.

I was also responsible for the Retrofitting of Launch Towers for the NASA Cape Kennedy and Vandenburg Facilities. On these projects, I performed a walk down on these structures and determined that the structures had suffered damage from salt-water corrosion. I performed an analysis using STAAD III and then laid out a retrofit and finally was responsible for detailed design drawings indicating the retrofits. In some of my previous work, I was responsible for the design large modular structures (scaffoldings and tool support platforms), cranes, crane girder runways, retaining walls and footings. I stamped off all final designs and drawings with my California PE for seismic compliance. This work involves considerable seismic analysis and retrofit for both UBC loading and dynamic (frequency-response/time history) loading. I also redesigned some Conveyor-Transfer towers at the Wilmington Port Facility for US Borax . This work involved shoring the present structure for the removal of Chevron Bracing’s (Vertical K-Bracing’s) and modification of connections. These structures had to be shored when the structural bracing’s were removed during the re-construction phase. A conveyor to load the ships and to bring material up to the tower were also retrofitted and enlarged.

Some of my past work has included the design of the "Cold Machine Shop " at the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. This work included the design of crane-girders, crane support columns, steel framing for an adjacent office area, footings, monorails and warehouse storage areas. Several light gauge supports and steel sheets were involved in this design. Modeling of these structures was with STRUDL including the dynamic package.

I also was responsible for the design of the Large Coal Dust Ducts and their Structural steel Supports and Concrete Foundations for the Cushenbury Cement Plant. This work involved a design, which permitted duct movement (thermal conditions) with seismic restraints. The ducts themselves were 36 inches in diameter and needed many steel stiffeners at various points along the length of the duct.

I have extensive experience with several PC-finite-element Programs such as IMAGES, SAP 80, SAP 90 and COSMOS. I have also worked with large mainframe programs such as STRUDL, EASE II and SAP.

These are only a small sample of experience and I can show you much more at an interview.

I feel that I would be a valuable addition to your firm.

Please feel free to contact me at any time for an interview.

Very Truly Yours,

Gary J. Harris
