Designed a square water bottle (via a 3D printer) with multiple pores. Synthetic scales cover the pores and open, by utilizing a water sensitive hydrogel, in the presence of water vapor from morning dew to collect the available moisture. During the heat of the day, the scales close, covering the pores, to store the water for later. Performed compression tests, a stress/strain analysis and modeling the various behaviors to learn about the properties of the gel I was using and ways in which it could be improved. Created a product for use in places where morning dew exceeds annual precipitation, offering a power free, easy to install, and easy to use atmospheric water sourcing technology.
