iSIMS LLC d.b.a. IntelliSIMS – Structural Consultant - Jan 2015 to Apr 2015 - Houston
• Performed ultimate strength assessment of fixed platforms. 3D SACS structure model was created for the platform and converted to USFOS. In-place ultimate strength analyses is conducted and Structural Reserve Strength Ratio (RSR) is determined for the platform. Prepared structural assessment report.
• Calculated the wave in jacket force and wave in deck force by writing macros based on a Fourier approximation method of steady water waves. Apply it to unit Jacket and unit deck and compare the results with real structures from SACS analysis. Finding a way to estimate wave in Jacket force and wave deck force together.
• Produced drawings for new platforms and for updating and rehabilitating existing platforms. Utilized AutoCAD to draft drawings for offshore jackets, drew sketches of fixed platforms and identifying scope of works for offshore underwater inspections.
• Conducted seismic analysis for offshore structures. In-place linear static strength and SLE assessments were carried out using SACS. Derived the equivalent earthquake loads for DLE. Ultimate strength and DLE assessments were carried out using USFOS.
• Estimated robustness score, consequence of failure from inspection reports and drawings.
• By estimating max shear force from 10-year to 10000-year full population hurricane criteria, found an efficient solution to estimate the probability of failure for fixed platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Developed a web-based SIM system to produce a cost-effective long-term inspection plan for offshore structures.
• Wrote a MATLAB code to solve high order stream function wave theory numerically and translate it into visual basic for application in Excel. Created a spreadsheet to get the newest API 2014 met-ocean criteria automatically.
• Assessment, and integrity management of offshore platforms and onshore facilities. CHENGXI SHEN E-mail: ***********@*****.*** Tel: 832-***-**** Address: 14443 Basalt Ln, Houston - TX 77077

iSIMS LLC d.b.a. IntelliSIMS – Structural Consultant Summer Internship – Jun 2014 to Aug 2014 - Houston
• Read Piping & Instruction diagram and safe charts, find integrity critical fixed equipment vs associated safety devices for Chevron’s platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
• Utilized ABAQUS to performed structural analysis with the sliding end of bridge connection of Yetagun platforms.
• Developed a method to calculate local joint flexibility of tubular K joints by ABAQUS and theoretical calculation, utilized Mathematica to fit the data and find out the parametric expressions. Xiandai Huagai Design Ltd. – Civil Internship - Apr 2013 to Jun 2013 – Shanghai
• Practiced to design and analyze steel structures of a tennis court in Zhejiang, China.
• Estimated and calculated the design modification cost according to the customers’ requirements. Research and Projects
Numerical study of flow past four square-arranged cylinders Oct 2014 to Dec 2014
• Benchmark problems of flow past a single and two cylinders are employed to validate the numerical method for incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. Then the study concentrates on flow past around four cylinders arranged as a square shape. The flow characteristics, including flow patterns, statistical force parameters such as the drag and lift coefficients are investigated. Bridge Crane Support "A" Frame Analysis May 2014
• Lead a project to find out the failure reason of bridge crane support “A” frame. Analyzed the A Frame for the lateral and vertical loads with SAP2000. Found out large moment at the weld point of top frame, which caused failure of the structural.
Analysis of a Single-Story Steel Structure with Comparatively Heavy Cranes Feb 2013 to Mar 2013
• Utilized SAP2000, along with hand calculation, to design a single-story steel structure industrial mill building with comparatively heavy cranes, and drew construction drawings. Research on a High Impact-resistance Concrete Manhole Cover Reinforced with Oct 2011 to Oct 2012 Spatial Steel Grid
• Developed a new kind of manhole cover with arch-shaped lower surface and reinforced with a three- dimensional steel wire framework.
• Patent based on this project has been filed. Publication Number: CN102852163 A Software
• AutoCAD, SACS, USFOS, SAP2000, MATLAB, Mathematica, ABAQUS, ANSYS, Microsoft Visual Basic for Application (VBA), Microsoft Office, MIDAS, PKPM, Origin. Honors and Memberships
