NEUROSURGERY FACULTY PEDIATRIC/ADULT NURSE PRACTITIONER & CASE MANAGEMENT UTHSCSA 2014-PRESENT
Perform daily rounds at University Hospital-Level 1 Trauma on all inpatients pediatric neurosurgical patients with assigned resident and attending, the pediatric and neonatology floors and ICUs.
Enter patient’s orders and notes on our Electronic Medical Record.
Follow up on outstanding images (CT’s, xrays, MRI’s) and update family with results.
Direct care for all pediatric neurosurgical patients from the Emergency Room, Operating room, inpatient unit, until discharged and Follow Up as outpatients.
Coordinate multidisciplinary care for all neurosurgical patients with Trauma, Hematology-Oncology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Otolaryngology, Cardiology, and Intensivist.
Perform minor procedures including shunt taps, ventricular access device taps, subdural tap through anterior fontanel, minor suturing, removal of intracranial pressure monitors and external ventricular drains,
JP drains management and removal, and lumbar puncture.
Assist our team and medical director with research projects, developing and maintaining neurosurgical protocols.
Maintain craniosynstosis database, which includes type of suture, Operating Room time, pre and post op Hct, amount of blood loss and fluids given etc.
Provide education to nursing staff and oncoming residents about neurosurgical topics.
Manage outpatient follow-up clinic for my attending and myself. I see new patients, Follow-up and hospital follow-ups.
Manage a plagiocephaly clinic with Cranial Remolding Orthotist.
Nurse coordinator for Cranial facial clinic our multidisciplinary team consists of neurosurgeons, plastics surgeons, cranial maxillary surgeons, otolaryngology, speech pathologist, audiology.
