DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY
NICU
Takes the nursing history, summarizes data, and states nursing diagnoses/ new-born care needs.
Observes and records sings, symptoms, and behaviours, including the physiological status of new-born; reports assessment changes, to the concerned authority.
Follows policy and delivers designated nursing inventions to assign new-born that are consistent with the stated medical plan of care.
Performs admission, discharge and transfer procedures, and assists others with new-born activities and care.
Executes physician’s orders for all assigned; new-born safely and property administers medications and treatments.
To be responsible for collection of specimens when ordered, ensuring correct labelling.
To be responsible for preparing assigned new-borns for programmed medical procedures.
To participate in specialist’s rounds and assist by giving relevant information as regards to nursing observations made on the residents.
To supervise the cleanliness of assigned area or the ward.
Carry out routine check at each handover that all equipment’s are in working order.
To ensure that all times used for residents inclusive of medications, surgical supplies are duly recorded and charged.
To carry out inventory on surgical items and equipment for each week.
Maintain residents safely by taking preventive measures against accidents.
Accurately records and reports incidents.
Cares for infants transitioning to extra uterine life.
Provide age and culturally appropriate care to new-borns.
Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate new-borns care plans.

Monitor vital signs and initiates corrective action whenever the new-borns displays adverse symptomatology, communicates patient’s conditions to care team
Assist treating physician during examination, treatment and procedures, which can include life-savings situations
