fixture for cylinder head covers, based on Geneva

mechanism at Krishnas Fittings.

PROJECTS

Design, Analysis and Fabrication of a Modular Staircase Climber

• This modular staircase climber is mainly designed for elderly and physically challenged people to carry heavy loads over staircase. It works on the principle of epicyclic gear train assembly with 3 planetary gears 3 idler gears and a main gear. This is an innovative helper bot, fusing mechanical technology with robotics, for the elderly and physically challenged, to help them carry heavy objects through the staircases.

• There are three hundred and ten components that are designed and fabricated using GD&T specification and Bill of Materials (BOM).

• It was selected as one of the best project by Tamil Nadu state council.

3D Metal Printing

• A revolutionary ergonomically friendly cutting-edge technique to see the imagination taking life.

• Based on the fused deposition modelling technique, the UR5 robotic arm with 6 rotating joints coupled with a controlled metal feeder, programmed by RoboDK, is used as a portable multi-utility 3D printer.

• Intricate metallic designs and composite products with varying density and strength can be made.

POKA YOKE Fixture for Filter Head

• Designed using SolidWorks/AutoCAD, fabricated a tool to check misalignment, center point distance, Metal Insert

• Position, Flatness and presence of Burr.

• This process reduced the inspection time drastically, thus increasing the yield from 600 to 1000 numbers per day.

• This fixture prevented the faulty components supplied to the customers and increased the company’s reputation. Design and Fabrication of a Strain Gauge Rosette for a Cantilever Beam

• A simple yet efficient device that calculates the elastic and compressive stress produced in a cantilever beam, from

• deflection caused in micro springs, with 4% greater accuracy than existing systems.

• Using the Samuel Hunter Christie’s wheat stone bridge circuit and replacing the two resistances with the known

• load, the deflection of the beam can be calculated.

• The minute difference in the weight can be calculated using the Kirchhoff's circuit laws.

Static Analysis of a Cricket Bat

• Using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to perform static structural analysis on the behavior and stress

distribution in a static object.

• The cricket bat was the study subject, as it has a complex contour. The stress and strain caused in the bat, caused due the impact of a load (ball) is determined using ANSYS.

• The deflection caused by the application of force determines the mechanical strength of the bat.

Indexing Fixture for Damper Process

• Incorporating a manually controlled indexing/Geneva mechanism into a fixture, for holding the cylinder head

• covers and to carry out operations in all sides without repetitive removal of the work piece, in the damper process.

• This fixture reduced the manpower by 50% and allowing them to work without much strain.

• This design is ergonomic and portable, making it suitable for working in any environment.

NSF MoS2/Graphene as Nano Lubricants in Engine Oil for Increased Engine Efficiency

• This is a research project and writing a NSF proposal about it. This research analyzes the properties of the lubricating oil when MoS2 and Graphene nano particles are introduced.

• The nano particles complement each other and give better lubricating properties.

• An increase in brake thermal efficiency and less wear and tear of the components can be observed.

Measurement Methods of Young’s Modulus for

Nanotubes, Nanorods and Nanowires

• This is a literature review project covering the measurement methods of elastic modulus of 1D nano

materials.

• This involves a study of different methods of

measurement and comparing their results and their

performance.

• To determine the actual tensile strength of a nano structure the direct and indirect methods of determining the young’s modulus, like TEM, Piezo Electric

Manipulator, AFM, SEM are discussed.
