My responsibilities included managing and leading all functions (Quality, Production, Engineering, HR, Materials / Inventory, Customer Service, P&L…) of engineered, OEM, and JIT products including assembly, fabrication, and production utilized in a variety of industries.
Major Accomplishments: Refocused and maintained ISO certifications; Lean - Six Sigma Project Coordinator implementing Metrics based decision making; Focused plant management teams on Continuous Improvement techniques with quantum results. Utilized Supply Chain Management to improve performance (went from 2-4-week delivery on raw materials to 24-72 hours)
In addition, I championed three startups of “In-Customer-Plant” manufacturing / installation operations, including one in Mexico by utilizing Kaizen events and beta site modeling.
1997 – 2000 ITT Industries, Fluid Handling System, Archbold, Ohio
Engineering Manager
Managed all aspects of engineering in this tier-one automotive tube production and fabrication operation including capital, tooling and facility projects, maintenance, all major capital projects, and cost improves.
Major Accomplishments: Key team leader/player in successful plant turn-around, focused on key products and innovational solutions. Numerous successful major capital projects managed. Also, developed and implemented skilled trades apprenticeship program.
1991 – 1997 Elco/Textron, Xact Products Division, Brooklyn, Michigan
Vice President of Manufacturing and Engineering
Managed and was responsible for the total manufacturing operation of this tier-one automotive supplier producing stampings, metal formed components, and assemblies. This included quality, engineering, production, customer service, inventory control, human resources, contractual negotiations, capital investments, and business planning.
Major Accomplishments: Managed 90% growth in sales over a six-year period with minimal capital or manning increases. Created employee involvement teams including; information meetings, development /training programs, fostered mentoring, and created a Tool & Die apprenticeship program. Was selected and served as a member of the Elco/Textron corporate ethics committee
1985 – 1991 General Electric Lighting, Dover Ohio
Manager of Shop Operations (1987-1991)
Development / Tooling Engineer (1985-1987)
Managed inclusively the stamping, forming, machining, and fabrications business servicing the lighting industry. This encompassed quality, engineering, customer service, and production.
Major Accomplishments: Reduced management and supervision by 50+% by creating a self-directed workforce. Developed and implemented a two-tiered pay structure within the union environment that resulted in being cost competitive in foreign markets.
1980 - 1985 Associated Spring - Barnes Group Inc., Dayton, Ohio
Supervisor / Engineer
Managed toolroom, punch press, fourslide, and heat-treat departments for this tier-one automotive spring supplier. Other responsibilities included tool design, quoting, machine programming, and quality systems implementation.
Major Accomplishments: Championed multi-plant consolidation efforts with very positive results. Fostered teamwork and championed a continuous improve culture. Developed, trained associates; and implemented shop-floor SPC program.
