Dear Hiring Manager:
I am excited to hear about your position in Safety. I have extensive experience and an excellent record in Safety Leadership having spent the past 15 years designing, managing, and improving safety for a large plastics distributor with 88 locations throughout North America. Under my leadership, the company saw drastic reductions in all safety metrics, resulting in cost savings of over $2 million dollars annually.
As Director of Safety, I had sole responsibility for all Health and Safety initiatives. Starting without a plan in place, I built custom training modules, an entire safety program, developed a thriving safety culture, worked with quality and operations personnel to fuse safety procedures into standard operating procedures, and routinely gave presentations to motivate at both the management and employee levels.
As a strong believer in continuous improvement, I attended seminars, stayed active in safety associations, read books, and took online courses to sharpen my skills annually. I have studied People Based Safety, Safety Psychology, Behavior Based Safety, Safety Management, Dr. Zebroski, the Heinrich Triangle, the Ten Principles of Safety, and several other leading safety ideals. Using these, I created a customized, hybrid blend of the best parts of each while removing unnecessary tasks to ensure time was best spent. Over the years, and as situations changed, the hybrid blend was further customized to remain effective and maintain enthusiasm.
I have a positive and bright personality. I am extremely passionate about safety and spread that passion throughout an organization. I believe in a company-first philosophy and will go the extra mile to ensure company success in all areas. I have a can-do attitude and learn new areas of expertise quickly. I am comfortable speaking to groups of any size or make up. I connect on a personal level with people from all walks of life.
If you have questions, or if you want to schedule an interview, please contact me at 585-***-****. I look forward to meeting you to further discuss employment opportunities with your organization. I understand that your position will require me to relocate. If the fit is right for both of us, it’s well worth it. I know I can be a large asset to your company!
Sincerely,
Your Name

Dear Hiring Manager,
It is my pleasure to highly recommend David Purvee for employment within your organization. David designed and managed our Safety Program starting without program precedent back in 2002. He held that position through my tenure as company President and CEO, ending on December 31st, 2017. During those fifteen years, our company saw dramatic drops in all safety metrics. Our total financial impact from safety related costs went from over $2,000,000 before his program was implemented to less than $10,000 under his leadership, all while our company doubled in size!
More than just safety, his program built a culture of continuous awareness and improvement that was used throughout the organization. Often, precedents set in the Safety arena led the way for other improvement initiatives throughout the company.
During the time he has worked for me I have been consistently impressed with David's positive attitude and productivity. He enthusiastically took on any project thrown his way, often volunteering for extra projects in the related areas of warehouse design and operations. He was always well-organized, well-spoken, and consistently well received by the variety of colleagues that sought out his counsel and services. David spent the time I knew him living ahead of deadlines and delivering beyond expectations.
Perhaps David’s best quality was his passion. He threw that passion into any project he took on, and made it contagious. Using his passion, he was able to motivate employees at both the management and ground level. I have personally observed how effective he was communicating to small groups in our operating locations as well as a room of several hundred managers, suppliers and customers. He connects on a personal level to all types of people.
I recommend Mr. Purvee without reservation. I am confident that he will have the vision, experience and passion to positively influence your safety and workplace culture. Please do not hesitate to call me personally on my cell phone 404-***-****) to discuss how David might impact the Safety performance and culture of your organization.
Very truly yours,
Mark W. Kramer

Dear Sir or Madam,
It is with mixed feelings that I am writing this letter of recommendation for Dave Purvee. First of all, I am saddened personally to see David go after having worked closely with him for the past 16+ years. Due to corporate restructuring, we have eliminated the position that he has exceled in since joining the company in 2002.
Dave joined Laird Plastics, the largest of the 11 brands now under the North American Plastics family umbrella. He created a safety culture that was non-existent or “insufficient” at best in 2002. Building this culture required Dave to create, organize, implement and follow-through with all the necessary material.
The financial impact was huge, reducing incident costs from over $2 million to a small fraction of that. More importantly, Dave helped reduce the number of incidents by changing the way everyone looked at safety, teaching us all to “Be our brother’s keeper.”
Safety is everyone’s responsibility; that said, Dave has always been in front, leading the charge. His passion and energy set him apart and have led to his and our success.
Passion is something not learned from a book or a course (although Dave has attended numerous courses and maintains his OHST certification.) Passion is internal. Dave is self-motivated and driven, and his enthusiasm contagious. His knowledge is real-world, learned on-the-job and he communicates in a manner that all understand.
In addition to safety, over the years Dave has never hesitated to jump into other operational projects, such as warehouse efficiency, the creation and implementation of an LMS program via Skillsoft, “Best practices” and more.
Dave is an “A” player that I would recommend for any organization looking to strengthen their safety and/or operational program. If you have questions about Dave’s abilities, please don’t hesitate to call me at 561-***-**** or write me at *******@*********************.***.
Thank you,
Mark Steele
