WORK EXPERIENCE.

MURANG’A COUNTY GOVERNMENT HQ (INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT). (12/6/2017 – 1/10/2017).

I started my twelve weeks attachment at the County Government of Murang’a where the core business was configure network and setting them up. Also some of other duties were hardware and software maintenance. I was able to learn work ethics including punctuality, cooperation with colleagues to accomplish tasks, problem solving ability, ability to work with minimal supervision and volunteering for tasks.

I also gained skills in hardware assembly, hardware repair, maintenance of computers and mass software installation using duplicators.

SKILLS

Web design and development.

I have the skills to build responsive websites that are responsive to the size of device they are viewed from and thus enable convenient viewing and navigation in mobile phones, tablets and computers. I also have the skills to establish connections to the database from the website so that content is easily managed and dynamically fetched from the database as per requests of the users on the website.

Cisco networking configuration and IP addressing.

I have acquired the skills necessary in public and private addressing of networks using Internet Protocol version 4. This includes network classification and ranges which are utilized based on the number of subnets and hosts in the design of a network, determining and CIDR (Classless inter-domain routing) and subnet masks for networks and determining number of hosts and number of subnets a network Id can hold.

Network design, installation and configuration.

I am equipped with knowledge about network topologies, where to apply each of them, how to troubleshoot and maintain. I am also able to determine which cables are necessary for connections between various devices in the network. With practice on simulated networks, am also able to determine the necessary configuration of network devices to ensure maximization of resources while maintaining high levels of security to safeguard resources and users of the network.

Computer hardware servicing, maintenance and assembly.

Having performed an adequate number of practical’s at school and with the experience I acquired during attachment, I am equipped with adequate knowledge to service computers, troubleshoot whenever they are not working properly and upgrade in case greater performance is required. I also have a great understanding of the components of computer hardware and how they interact to accomplish tasks.

Entrepreneurship and IT support.

Within the university, I also used my free time to offer services to other students and university staff. This include sale of computer accessories, installation of operating systems and antivirus, computer servicing and repair. I advertised these services on social platforms and at school.

Database and security.

I have also practiced on necessary skills for data management in database including data entry, retrieval, recovery, querying and creation of views that retrieve only preferred rows from specified tables.

Hobbies and Interests.

I love following up on the changes in technology that occur in the field of computer science which are aimed at improving security and increasing performance of devices.

I also love watching documentaries on successful businesses, products, organizations’ and economies to study the principles they use for sustainable growth.
