Provided both mental and physical assistance for two senior citizens ( my parents ) suffering from dementia. Made needed Doctors appointments and set up transportation to and from said appointments. Bathed, dressed, and groomed them on a daily basis ( or as often as needed ). Provided freshly laundered clothes for each of them every day ( or as often as needed ). Cooked three meals a day and provided snacks when requested. Cleaned kitchen after each meal. Cleaned apartment daily and removed any tripping hazards. Encouraged conversations between the two ( even though my father had no idea who my mother or I were ). Provided mind stimulating activities, ie; concentration ( card game ), brain teaser puzzles, word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles. Asked how to spell certain words that I knew they could remember and certain words that would require a higher level of thought. Showed them old photographs and asked who the people were in the photos. Tried to build their self confidence by asking them questions ( not to easy nor too difficult ) about their past, birth dates, anniversaries, parents and siblings names, names of my brothers and sisters, names of grand children and great grand children, former addresses, where they worked and what they did, and what states they lived in and when they lived there. Found a suitable full time--live in--nursing home for my father when he needed more care than I knew how to give ( January 2016 ) . Did the same for my mother three months later.
