To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Scott Long and I have been a high school English teacher in the Rock Hill School District for the past five years. While I have enjoyed my time in the classroom, I am ready to pursue a new career path, and I feel that my varied work experience and the fact that I have earned two Bachelor’s Degrees in two different and varied content areas will make me a valuable asset.
I earned my first college degree in 1993 from Winthrop University in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. It was during this time at Winthrop that I learned the skills necessary to: market a product, devise a business plan, and manage a business effectively. I also participated in the Winthrop University Chorale and Jazz Voices, and was President of the school’s physical fitness club.
I also attended Winthrop from 2008-2010, earning a second Bachelor’s Degree in English. I learned the importance of communication (both verbal and written), as well as various English Language Arts techniques during this time. I also worked a part-time job with the Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department during this second term at Winthrop, which taught me how to effectively manage my time.
My work experiences are varied, and include: teaching high school English, athletic field maintenance and landscaping, installing and troubleshooting cable television and modems, various warehouse duties, shipping and receiving, mailroom duties, managing a small cleaning crew, and supervising a small group of job coaches at a workshop catering to those with special needs.
Based on my varied job experiences and educational achievements, my work ethic, and my desire and willingness to learn new trades and skills, I believe that I would be a great addition to your company’s team. Please consider my resume for the current position.
Sincerely,
G. Scott Long
